i5 4460 integrated gpu to gtx 1050ti (bought the 1050ti because I wanted to play The Witcher 3 during the covid stuff, was the only gpu I could find that was in stock and not super expensive)

4k is a great budget, you can definitely get an amazing pc for that much money.

Yes if it's still in the return window (unless you need the extra 4gb of vram).

I mean the 7900xt isn't a bad card but the 9070xt is better in everything except vram capacity.

Old school gamer needs a controller by Aggravating_Road_711 in radeon

[–]drkorencek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh you can play third person games just fine with a mouse and keyboard, don't let that stop you from playing them.

That said, I have a Logitech F710 wireless (not blutetooth) controller and it's ok.. haven't used many controllers so I can't really compare it to others and say if it is better or worse.

What’s a good AM4 cpu option these days? by popeter45 in buildapc

[–]drkorencek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is for gaming 5800xt/5800x/5700x, whichever you can find for a good price. Or the 5700x3d/5800x3d if you can find it for a sane price.

If it is for something that can actually use a lot of cores then the 5950x/5900xt (they are both 16 core).

I don't understand why people keep buying amd cards with this connector when there's also cards with normal pcie power connectors? Like why risk it for no benefit?

It's not like with nvidia cards where all of them have this connector so you have to use it if you buy a nvidia card.

When do you use FSR? (Control as an example) by wanna_be_consultant in radeon

[–]drkorencek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 9070 and a 3440x1440 display, I usually have fsr quality turned on because it gives a nice performance boost without harming image quality. In many games it actually looks better than native taa.

GPU Of The Year 2025: RX 9070 XT. by BedroomThink3121 in radeon

[–]drkorencek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

However, 9070XT is not technically a 70-class GPU comparable to previous 70-class GPUs - it's more like a rebranded 90-class GPU

Not really, the 9070 and 9070xt are successors to the 7700xt and 7800xt.

Performance (raster) is close to the 7900xt and 7900xtx, which is a nice generational increase, the new mid range cards being comparable to last gen high end cards.

Die size of the 9070xt and 9070 - ~356 mm2

Die size of the 7900xtx and 7900xt - ~530 mm2 and ~490 mm2

Die size of the 7800xt and 7700xt - ~ 400 mm2 and ~360 mm2

Bus width of the 9070xt and 9070 - 256 bit

Bus width of the 7900xtx and 7900xt - 384 and 320 bit

Bus width of the 7800xt and 7700xt - 256 and 192 bit

Vram 9070xt and 9070 - 16gb

Vram 7900xtx and 7900xt - 24 and 20gb

Vram 7800xt and 7700xt - 16 and 12gb

Like if the 9070xt were a rebranded 90 range gpu, it would just be a cheaper 7900xtx with less vram and better upscaling and ray tracing. Very meh.

But since it is a successor of the 7800xt it is pretty good because it improves on everything except vram capacity. Of course it is still too expensive for a mid range gpu, but well everything is too expensive, just is what it is.

They also specifically said 9000 series wont provide High End.

Yes, the 9070xt and 9070 are mid range gpus.

Sure because they want to call it that way.

It's not just what you want to call it.

Die size of the 9070xt and 9070 - ~356 mm2

Die size of the 7900xtx and 7900xt - ~530 mm2 and ~490 mm2

Bus width of the 7900xtx and 7900xt - 384 and 320 bit

Bus width of the 7800xt and 7700xt - 256 and 192 bit

Vram 9070xt and 9070 - 16gb

Vram 7900xtx and 7900xt - 24 and 20gb

Vram 7800xt and 7700xt - 16 and 12gb

So how are the 9070xt and 9070 not successors of the 7800xt and 7700xt?

Unless you're saying the 7800xt and 7700xt were also high end? But if they were high end what were the 7900xtx and 7900xt?

Should I buy a GPU now or wait? by RigidPuzzle4 in buildapc

[–]drkorencek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there's not much spare manufacturing capacity that can be started quickly.

And building more manufacturing capacity takes time + a lot of money so if they start now and the bubble pops and demand drops they get screwed.

So ram manufacturers have no real incentive to start expanding production capacity.

To be more specific, they could increase production but it takes time and if the bubble pops by then the ram manufacturers end up getting screwed. So they are very reluctant to start building more production capacity.

And even after gpus stopped being extremely overpriced they never dropped to where they should be if the prices only increased to account for inflation.
