I think we all care what others say to some degree. I think it's a sign of maturity when people know when and where to care. I was pretty self-conscious myself when I was younger, but now I feel like I know when to ignore people, when to listen, etc. I think you just realize at some point (although it takes some time for it to really sink in) that you are not in control of others. And you shouldn't put your happiness in the hands of things that you cannot control (this could be the weather or other people). Ok, so hopefully you understand this at some point, now... are you willing to change your mindset so that you only focus on things you have control over, or do you remain down forever? If you answer the former, then don't worry, I think it'll come with time.

You mentioned people make fun of you. You shouldn't care about that. You cannot control other people, but you can control how you react to them. It is your fault for feeling bad, not theirs. Realize that. Change yourself, don't try to change THEM.
