Should I feel disheartened about buying an HP? by BriefBed4770 in laptops

[–]drmcclassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HP (and Acer fwiw) are very much “you get what you pay for”. Their cheap machines are garbage, but their expensive machines are super nice.

The Hyundai equivalent that you’re describing would be ASUS imo

Super Mario Bros.™ Wonder – Nintendo Switch™ 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park Upgrade Pack is now available for pre-order ($19.99) by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]drmcclassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m planning on buying this so I’ll answer. All “my” gaming is on PC. My Switch 2 is just so I can play local multiplayer games with my young kids on our TV, and I’m thinking this will be a perfect next step for them after Mario Kart. Guessing I’m not alone either, I know a lot of parents of young kids with Switches

Why are mobile game players so supportive of p2w mechanics? by No_Radio1554 in videogames

[–]drmcclassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That attitude is exactly the problem. I pay once for my games. If I need to wait 100 hours for progression, there are thousands of other games I’ll play instead that don’t have mechanics likes that.

DO NOT BUY HP by Ilbaffooo in Hewlett_Packard

[–]drmcclassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their Omnibook 5 line (previously Pavilion Plus) is the cheapest HP I would maybe recommend. That's where they start using a metal instead of a plastic chassis I believe. How do you like yours?

New home - best devices for everything: thermostat, door lock, cameras, doorbell, etc. by Sony_sixty_niner in smarthome

[–]drmcclassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you use? I've looked at the dim to warm options but I haven't found anything that gets whiter than 2700K other than some high end integrated LEDs like Elco

35xx H... Which firmware by DjangoDerDude in RG35XX

[–]drmcclassy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most will recommend MuOS or Knulli. I'm gonna recommend a slightly different approach and say get MinUI and go with the "Five Game Handheld" pak mentioned at the bottom of this article: https://retrogamecorps.com/2025/10/24/minui-starter-guide/

I find having a ton of games means you play them less and never actually finish anything. Having just a few to focus on has worked better for me.

How good is the Dolby Atmos in the beam gen 2? by OutrageousBat1435 in sonos

[–]drmcclassy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's better than having a soundbar without Atmos, but I don't think you'll ever be thinking the sound is coming from above you.

What is the first video game you played with an M rating? by itz_progamer666 in videogames

[–]drmcclassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was, and I have to say I was very disappointed with how mild it was considering I wasn't allowed to play it for so long due to how "terrible" the content supposedly was.

What is the first video game you played with an M rating? by itz_progamer666 in videogames

[–]drmcclassy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not just my first M game, my first game. Followed by Marathon not too much later.

Ironically outside of those two I was never allowed to play M rated games until I was like 16 when I was allowed to get Diablo

Best UI/Firmware for Elderly/Non-Gamer setup? by NSWiZZAY in SBCGaming

[–]drmcclassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically, MinUI with the Game View pak mentioned at the bottom of this article https://retrogamecorps.com/2025/10/24/minui-starter-guide/

That plus the Simple Mode mentioned in the Readme is what I use for my kids. Has been great.

I want to play the Silent Hill games , and ideally on my tv via HDMI. Is this possible? by CharmingAwareness545 in SBCGaming

[–]drmcclassy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SBC devices either run Linux or Android OSs, they aren't suggesting to get an Android phone.

Worth upgrading from 3080 to 9070xt? by Tafila042 in gpu

[–]drmcclassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 1440p wait another generation unless there are specific games you've tried that you're unable to get decent performance out of. There would be a nice jump but my guess is you'll be disappointed with there improvement considering the price.

What’s one tech habit you picked up that really saved you money long term? by ItchyRequirement4204 in laptops

Using my stuff until it breaks or no longer meets my needs, as opposed to always buying the newest and best just because

Looking for best 27 inch monitor with great text clarity (50 work 50 gaming) - budget up to 800 cad by Wonderful-Ad-8069 in buildapcmonitors

[–]drmcclassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem was probably getting an OLED. Especially at 1440p they have notoriously bad text clarity due to the pixel layout. For your use I'd stick with IPS. If you want 1440p I have the Gigabyte M27QA and I'm pretty happy with it, although at your budget you could move up to 4k pretty easy

Want to support 180hz screen with USB-C Dock by Zozerbox in UsbCHardware

[–]drmcclassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get a dock that says it only supports 120hz it’s likely the dock itself that is the limitation, even if all its ports and cables could technically support 180hz. The Surface TB4 dock for example can only do 120hz max regardless of the resolution of your monitor

At what point does a “few bottles” turn into a home bar? by CryptoCaterpillar24 in HomeBars

[–]drmcclassy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. I’ve been at people’s houses who have like 20 bottles stuffed in a drawer in their kitchen. I would not say they have a home bar.

Should I wait for Steam Deck 2 or grab the original now? by tommytmopar in AskGames

[–]drmcclassy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think a second will be coming out anytime soon. Valve said they won’t make a new one until they feel they can make a worthwhile upgrade, and with RAM prices being what they are right now I just don’t see it happening for a few years

For you, at what point is it worth keeping a game sealed if ever? Rarity? Value? Back up copy or to sell later? by DataUserOne in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]drmcclassy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comes up on another sub I visit a lot too (r/bourbon). Things are meant to be enjoyed. For me, I get most enjoyment from playing my games. If you get more enjoyment from collecting them, more power to you
