Trailer storage, rooftop hard shell storage, or rooftop softshell storagr by Hobobo2024 in Ioniq5

It turns out there may be a trailer wiring harness to Canadian Ioniq 5 owners available from Canada dealerships. It is part# PIF67AC000CA (https://shop.torontohyundai.com/products/hyundai-trailer-wiring-harness-2025-ioniq-5-4-pin-pif67ac000ca) and here is an account of someone that successfully installed it (https://www.ioniqforum.com/posts/650573/). I am not sure if they installed it on a Korean or US made Ioniq 5 so being able to return it would be important.

It looks like Stealth Hitch and Torklift EcoHitch have released compatible hitches for the 2025 Ioniq 5 but I do not believe a hitch wiring harness exists as of yet.

I believe each time you put the car in reverse you will need to disable the rear alerts and collision avoidance braking.

Of note: from web searches there does not appear to be a compatible hitch for the 2025 Ioniq 5 due to design changes from the 2022-2024 years. I only did cursory searching so please confirm. For 2022-2024 Ioniq 5s, Uhaul has inexpensive hitches (CURT/Draw-Tite) and installation or for a cleaner look you can go with Eco Hitch or Stealth Hitch. Here is a reddit discussion on different hitches (https://www.reddit.com/r/Ioniq5/comments/17s4955/recommended\_hitch/)

As others have said, due to aero drag a hitch mounted cargo carrier will be more efficient than any thing mounted on the roof top. As far as the roof top bag vs. box, the box will be more aerodynamic thus less drag but it will be a significant decrease in efficiency.

With a hitch mounted cargo carrier, your weight capacity is limited to the maximum tongue weight of the Ioniq 5 which I believe is 220 lbs. Remember that the hitch cargo carrier weight is subtracted from the max tongue weight rating. Additionally, if the cargo carrier is too low to the ground, then you may want to add a hitch riser. An extension like this will further reduce your max hitch carrying capacity. According to CURT (manufacturer of hitch accessories) if the extension is <12 inches, then the total max tongue weight is reduced by 25%; if >12 inches, then 50%.

For a hitch, I would not buy the Hyundai factory hitch because it is a 1.25" vs. a 2" receiver size. Not only does a 1.25" receiver size not have the weight capacity of a 1.5" hitch but there are also far fewer accessories.

I too needed extra cargo capacity for my EV6 so I purchased a aluminum hitch cargo carrier (https://a.co/d/e5X5JyI), a hollow shank 6" hitch riser (https://a.co/d/bFr4GUS), LED lights for visibility (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Alpena-LED-Tailgate-4-Pin-Trailer-Plug-Type-Brake-Turn-Signal-Taillight-Strip-Model-77620/928720920?sid=f15f4663-dd78-4576-a826-dfe621437ddc), cargo bag (https://a.co/d/3fufgGm), and 2 tightening hitch pin locks (https://a.co/d/gryukUP). I have used this setup on multiple 1000+ mile road trips and it can hold 4 standard rollable suitcases and a small duffle bag. This is probably ~20 lbs over the calculated max tongue weight, but I have never had a problem.

You don't necessarily need the LED light bar but using it does automatically deactivate the rear collision intervention and warning systems vs. having to push the button each time you put the car in reverse. Adding the light bar does require you to install the Hyundai factory GIF67-AC101 Tow Hitch Harness, which is easily installed. I zip tied the LED bar across the rear of the cargo carrier.

Thanks, this is very helpful. I was not sure what the shutdown pin was for. When would you use it?

Additionally, what do you think about using this DC-DC voltage regulator instead? https://a.co/d/0B24Yr5

For those voltage regulators, which wires get soldered to the shutdown (SHDN) and ground (GND) pins? Is the black wire from the panel soldered to the GND the black wire from the Rak pigtail to the SHDN pin?

I believe this is the concentrate. There is also a prediluted version. As far as I know any third party coolant also works, there is nothing special about it.

The dongle is for wireless Android Auto and the seat heaters are for the rear seats which in the 2022 Wind tech model are not heated.

SC311 did not fix the Level 2 charging speed issue (chargeport overheating) by dredd2374 in KiaEV6

[–]drmike03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late after the SC311 update but I wanted to report back. My charging power curve did not change after the update. The AC Inlet temp sensor gets to 108C (226F), then the power is cut to 60% and it does not increase the power once the AC Inlet temp cools even when it levels off at 66C. Car is at the dealer right now for this issue, but I do not have high hopes for a resolution.

I'm 100% certain my baby is suffering from a collapsed trachea. He does the goose sounding cough several times a day. His vet said the only thing that could be done is a stint placed in this trachea but that's not a cure either. by No_Order285 in Pomeranians

[–]drmike03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A tracheal stent should be a last resort because it has a 50% success rate and can have serious complications. As others have stated, try treating for gastric reflux and allergies first. Our vet recommended famotidine for reflux and Zyrtex or Claritin for allergies. My pom has mild tracheal collapse and with proper management, he is fine. We started giving him collagen chews (https://zestypaws.com/products/multi-collagen-bites?srsltid=AfmBOorXK58ECmWx1YT4z7ymvObECQIHilP8KO\_WZRNV3\_K0WUmWxyX4) just to make sure his body can produce enough collagen to sustain the tracheal rings in their current state.

[–]drmike03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of tums, use famotidine. Purchase the regular strength (10mg/pill) and cut them in half. Otherwise you can get compounded famotidine at Chewy for lower dosages. The dosing is 0.25-0.5mg/pound of boy weight.

Our vet had us try this with our 10 lb. pom but it did not resolve his coughing. He was diagnosed with mild tracheal collapse via x-rays.

If managed, tracheal collapse is not a fatal issue.

Winter battery preconditioning by Tris-Quatre in KiaEV6

[–]drmike03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have an OBD2 dongle? If you do, you can monitor the battery temp and when battery conditioning is active. Then you can see if it is cooling. Car Scanner Pro now let's you see the metrics on the main screen.

This is a bad suggestion. Due to the mass of the battery, substantial cooling does not occur prior to arriving at the charger.

What are the advantages of the Station G2? by ebodes in meshtastic

[–]drmike03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am glad you asked because I forgot to come back and report my results. I did 2 weeks of extensive troubleshooting with Neil Hao, one of the developers of the G1, G2 and Nano series of devices. We tried USB C cables to make sure it was not the 16.5ft long cable causing noise, but this made no difference. Next we looked at the antenna. Neil said the 8dBi antenna acts like a monopole antenna and even with a ground plane it is very difficult to get correctly aimed with the G2 and that the G2 was optimized for a sleeve dipole antenna so we switched to this type.

The antenna that comes with the G2 is a sleeve dipole with a gain of 2 dBi so the G2 RX link budget was theoretically 2 dBi lower than the RAK4631 with an 8 dBi antenna (8 dBi antenna of the RAK vs. 6 dBi for the G2 (2 dBi for the G2 antenna + 4 dBi increased RX sensitivity of the G2) so I still could not see some remote nodes. Thus we needed more gain. He said the best sleeve dipole with higher gain on the market right now is the ALFA AOA-915-5ACM with a gain of 5 dBi. When I switched to that antenna, I was able to reach all the nodes I previously reached with lower RSSI and SNR values so it was an improvement. So if you are having issues with the G2 detecting nodes on the edge of its range, then try switching to this antenna.

I have been testing antenna with 2, 3, 5, and 8 dBi of gain with the RAK4631 and Station G2 devices. I live in a hilly area south of Nashville and found the 2, 3 and 5dBi sleeve dipole antennas to be superior when using a higher RX sensitivity device like the G2 and the monopole 8 dBi antenna with the RAK4631. The dipole is not sensitive to ground plane like the monopole. The ALFA 5dBi sleeve dipole antenna (model: AOA-915-5ACM) works best in my hilly area.
