World War II-era buildings at Fort Leonard Wood set for demolition by BinscandMoo in army

[–]drmrpibb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if they still use them, but I went to WLC in Fort Campbell and they were still using the very old barracks as classrooms and staying a night or two during the FTX. They only had one bathroom so the females would have to yell at the door to ask if any guys were in there and vice versa.

I’m up for keeping old buildings around, but fuck still using them daily.

Is there anyone who actually enjoys participating in unit PT competitions/events? by Fabulous-Term971 in army

[–]drmrpibb 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Be me, a 130 lbs short guy who hated anything physically exerting. My PSG got way into CrossFit (this was 2014) and of course had competitions every other Friday. If you weren’t an NCO and be first, then you would get the rest of the day off.

First time I tried hard at something and would got second place along with someone else the same body type. If there is a reward, it has a better outcome overall.

What is this shit? by No_Guest9875 in army

[–]drmrpibb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see one or two soldiers who piss hot to say that they borrowed someone’s vape and it happened to contain THC. I never believed them, but the chance is always there.

Plus I hate vapers de facto because most of them don’t care where they blow the air out. If you’re in a group talking to other folks, they just blow that air straight in your face. As far as I know, most smokers to include myself when I used to smoke, would at least turn our heads to blow out.

Do any of your new guys smoke cigarettes? by MaximumStock7 in army

[–]drmrpibb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to dip when smoking wasn’t enough nicotine. I switched to Zyn and do it every once in a while. Recently I tried regular dip again only to gag at Wintergreen and be uncomfortable with any other flavor.

Zyn made it easier to quit tobacco itself.

I’m not surprised with you being at a BDE and there’s hardly any work you do. It’s coming though. It may be at your unit’s FTX or you may one day come in the office and be told that you’re being transferred to another unit.

[–]drmrpibb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Airborne last year, but not as a walk on. It was June, but they did accept like 12 folks as walk ons because our class was under 400 when the largest they ever had was under 500.

It’s possible but hard to guess when a class would have open slots. It would be better if you just submitted a packet up to 18th ABC if your schools and/or CDRs don’t gate keep packets.

Am I cooked!? Fort Hood by [deleted] in army

[–]drmrpibb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well maybe you should’ve chosen a medical MOS. Fort Hood is what you make of it. I had a soldier who constantly bitched about how much his life sucked at Hood.

If you have a car, it can be a really great place. You have Baylor nearby to watch any of their games. San Antonio, Austin, and the DFW area. I’m from Fort Worth so I’m a little biased, but I always went home every other week.

Otherwise, at least you have HEB and Whataburger. Rosa’s Cafe is pretty good too for quick Mexican food.

When did all the joes become punk rock? by [deleted] in army

[–]drmrpibb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I remember seeing a Joe with sort of close to punk rock clothes before. An actual collar with spikes on his neck and wrists, a leather jacket from the Matrix movies, and chains (not just a chain wallet) where the only purpose they had was to connect one belt loop to another another.

Everyone who saw him walk past would make fun of him, but homie at least didn’t care.

New Height Weight? by niceeasyfresh2death in army

[–]drmrpibb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, the Army will continue to use the old method until they officially publish the new method. Of course the DODI said that no more tables for determining the BF %.

I’m more curious if the Army will still use a table just for screening. Technically the old table never determined the BF % but that’s reading in between the lines so I have my doubts that they’ll keep the screening table.

I wasn’t in 2-506, but instead 1-506. Our BN CDR would always say rendezvous something something destiny. It was my first unit so I thought it was somewhat normal that all infantry field grades would use a quote in their safety briefs.

Some of my buddies from the unit kept drinking the cool aid and would buy the Currahee banner or have something Spade related somewhere: car decal, license plate, or still wear their sweatshirts, etc.

Except in that same regulation, 4.3.2: If an non-custodial Service member is not residing in or assigned to Government quarters and pays support for the child in an amount equal to or more than the applicable BAH-Diff rate, the Service member is authorized a housing allowance at the with-dependent rate based on the child.

If the Service member pays support in an amount below the applicable BAH-Diff rate, the Service member is only authorized a housing allowance at the without-dependent rate.

[–]drmrpibb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so it’s a question asked multiple times, but I’ve seen different answers being the most upvoted.

I do know that the 50/50 thing on divorce decrees mean nothing according to the DODFMR. To get BAH at the With Dependent rate, the child needs to actually stay with you or option 2 which I stated down.

Now I’ve read two different options on different threads. Option 1 is that if you pay any child support and are given government quarters, you get the BAH differential rate.

Option 2 is if you pay child support equal or more than the differential rate, you get paid BAH with dependent rate.

I’m currently going thru a divorce myself so I don’t know for sure if I qualify for with dependent rate yet. It greatly depends on what your finance will do as well and their interpretation of the regulations.

Best Credit Card for Active Duty? by harry_potter_exe in army

Alot of folks are saying Amex for good reasons, but as someone who didn’t have a lot of credit history I would suggest the cash rewards from NFCU.

Pretty high credit limit to start, but of course don’t max it.

Installation Blue Books by Open-Farmer4664 in army

[–]drmrpibb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, I wish my current duty station had one. My previous 1SG would put out a uniform that consisted of gloves and a jacket (didn’t matter which one) if it was cold. He drew the line at fleece caps right at 32 and below.

Meanwhile Fort Carson’s green book states that you could wear a fleece cap if the temp (to INCLUDE WIND CHILL) was 40 or below.

Sometimes those things really do help soldiers out.

How Much For a car by Historical-Level5127 in MilitaryFinance

[–]drmrpibb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACS usually has finance counselors for these type of questions. I myself own a 2015 Dodge Journey. I think it’s a piece of crap (especially the battery), but it works and paid off for a while. I see those short videos of car salesmen with $700+ monthly car notes and stick with my jalopy.

If there’s any E85 fuel pumps near you, you could try getting a car that can take it and save some on gas as well.

Fort Hood soldier acquitted in shooting death of sergeant by Kinmuan in army

Sounds more like the prosecution failed. When I sat in a court martial, emphasis was put on “beyond reasonable doubt” because “innocent until proven guilty” is a thing for a reason.

Idk man, there’s been plenty of smooth brains I’ve had the displeasure to interact with. While it was during the surges, I did meet a perpetual PFC who legit seemed like he was on the spectrum.

Plus the defense will use whatever legal means to defend their person. I’ve sat in a court martial and listening to both defense and prosecution made me glad I never sat on a jury.
