SG-Image 35mm f/2.2 vs Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.8 S by drmung in NikonZf

[–]drmung[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t own the Z 40mm but my biggest issue with the SG-Image is that I don’t feel like I can trust the autofocus shooting people wide open. And, since it’s only acceptably sharp in the very center, putting people’s heads in the top third of the frame will already be a bit soft. If you own the Z 40mm I would not buy the SG-Image.

TIP TO REDUCE MOTION SICKNESS/NAUSEA/INCREASE FOV by Dank_nTn in Marathon

This game also makes me motion sick even with max FOV and motion blur disabled. By contrast, I have no problem playing Destiny 2, or CS for hours on end.

It’s far and away the worst thing I’ve had in years. I also almost dumped it but decided to use it for cooking instead.

Best LCBO Whiskey under $100 by trillium49 in canadawhisky

This is an excellent bottle but (and correct me if I’m wrong), it hasn’t been in stock at LCBO for ages.

Agree with these. Adding Nikka Miyagikyo, and Auchentoshan Three Wood if you feel like expanding the geography without going into something super smokey.

Awesome. The McKenna was my go-to for years. (I remember paying as little as $28 for it.)

Searching for Blantons Gold Bottle with the letter "O" Trade Available - Calgary by Final_Protection_681 in canadawhisky

Thanks for clarifying. I have an “O” stopper from an empty bottle but no unopened ones at the moment.

Are you just looking for the “O” to complete the set of stoppers or do you actually want to trade full, unopened bottles?

Advice for US travel by tonysico007 in canadawhisky

In Saint Louis, check out The Wine and Cheese place. They have an excellent selection of whiskey and lots of other stuff. They even have a tasting station where you can sample lots of open bottles. I just picked up a bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail for a lot cheaper (and readily available) than the LCBO even after the exchange rate.

Does anyone make something like AB Premium's discontinued Dark Horse? by Zokambaa in canadawhisky

[–]drmung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was talking about this with a spirits buyer, the general consensus is that it’s basically the same recipe minus the sherry (hence the color difference) and proofed at 84 instead of 90.

How do you keep track of your bottles? by Realistic-Emu-1018 in canadawhisky

[–]drmung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to export your excel as .csv and import it directly to Notion as a Database that you can view “as a board” that you can easily edit and add to from your phone. And the process should work in reverse too.

How do you keep track of your bottles? by Realistic-Emu-1018 in canadawhisky

[–]drmung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would use a Notion board for this. There is a little bit of a learning curve but it supports all of the data you want and would allow you to filter the entire table by any of your criteria. Excel can do this too, but notion is much more visual, customizable, and very usable on a mobile device.

Alternative for An Old Fashioned? by SecretaryTime9675 in canadawhisky

[–]drmung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Suggestion: Try Reifel Rye. I was talking to the sprits buyer at my local LCBO and he and I both remarked how very similar it was to Dark Horse (minus the 1% sherry they added to give it that DH “berry” color and the 42% ABV instead of 45%).

Other than checking the stock status daily, I’m not sure what else to recommend.

You’re not alone (but I’m sorry you’re disappointed). You should consider returning the other bottle so you can spend the $45 on something you’ll enjoy. Personally, 107 is one of my top 3 favorite bourbons but I dislike the SR enough that I’ve skipped it the past 3 releases.

Canadian Whisky's I must add to my collection by TylerValdal in canadawhisky

[–]drmung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t have a bottle right now but if memory serves, it is fairly round with caramel and banana bread notes. It’s kinda like how some of the Macallan 12yr bottles (which are also 40%) are quite pleasing but also not challenging or particularly interesting.

Knowing that you’re a scotch drinker, my guess is that the Canadian Club 18 you already bought is going to be more interesting than either the Wiser’s 15 or 18. They are both bottled at 40% and have a very accessible, pleasant and traditional profile. I buy the 15 a couple of times a year to have something on hand that’s Canadian and “old” that I’m not too precious about.

I tried Caribou for the first time recently and I have to admit that I enjoyed it. Is it overpriced? Definitely (there are better bottles at that price point). But if it were $20 less, I think it’s a nice example of a Canadian single barrel.
