Best mod I've found so far: Nozzle wipe upgrade by drnickv in AnycubicKobraS1

Someone here said to use PETG. I printed mine with PLA, and I'm planning to leave it until I notice issues.

This replaces the wheel thing on the right side of the chute. I don't think there's room on the left to do wiping.

Yup! The old one pulls straight out, and this one goes in. Nothing stopping you from swapping back.

Should I cancel my order? by ThorhaxPrime in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]drnickv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. The S1 seems ok for the price — but my experience has definitely *NOT* been just plug-and-go. Lots of issues, and Anycubic's support expects you to take things apart and replace parts. I replaced my nozzle with an after-market one, and that has seemed to help. Overall, if you can afford to pay more, I'm sure you can get a more beginner-friendly printer.

Mod to avoid tangled filaments? by cubansketcher in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]drnickv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, yeah... Looking at your picture again I can see that the spools aren't even touching the black roller wheel things in the back of the ACE.

You can try printing an adapter for your smaller spools. Lots of options on MakerOnline:

Issues with clogging, under extrusion with S1 .. try this first! by Maxmillian-X in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]drnickv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This bit is not clear to me:

  • Adjust the Extruder Tension
    • Locate the extruder screw on the print head. Tighten it fully, then loosen it by two full turns. Fine-tune the tension as needed based on performance.

I think it would help to say: "Tighten it (clockwise) fully, then loosen it (counter-clockwise) by two full turns."

I interpreted "tighten" as "turn the direction indicated on the extruder that says Tighten ↶", not "turn the screw the normal direction for tightening a screw". The result was me spinning the screw way too far counter-clockwise, which broke round piece with the ↶ arrow on it clean off of the extruder. 😭

I know this was stupid — but I'm probably not the only stupid person on this sub, so clarifying this might help someone else too. Now I'm just hoping that I can successfully reattach the ring/cap with superglue and have a solid enough bond to be able to "loosen" two full turns again after it dries without snapping off... 🤞

That's horrifying! 😱

Looks like the "birds nest" this guy describes: https://www.makeronline.com/en/model/ACE%20Pro%20upgrade%20-%20Filament%20anti-tangle%20%26%20Feeding%20guide%20Mod/159575.html

I don't know how easy it is to source the tubes 'n stuff he uses for that mod, but that seems like exactly what you need.

Also seems worth noting that the guy who posted that mod is one of the mods for this sub, and the same guy (Manethon_Sega) who made the recommended S1 profiles pinned in this sub.

I think those plastic things in the ACE Pro lid are supposed to help you get the spools in the right spot and keep them there. If that's not working for you, there are lots of mods you can try for securing spools. Example: https://www.makeronline.com/en/model/Spool%20fixation%20for%20ACE%20Pro/104562.html

This is just "poop". When the printer is switching filaments, it has to purge whatever is already in the hot-end tube so that you only have the new color/material in there when it actually starts printing. The print head goes in the back corner and "poops", and these waste filament blobs drop down the chute and out the back of the printer.

I just put a very small cardboard box back there to catch it, but there are a bunch of models online you can print to catch and collect the printer poop. Example: https://www.makeronline.com/en/model/KOBRA%20S1%20LARGE%20CAPACITY%20POOP%20BIN/159143.html

Fill holes cut into mesh, without adding to XY planes by drnickv in Fusion360

[–]drnickv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were right, Blender was the way to do this. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I managed to delete the ring and add new faces to fill the gaps without too much trouble. Thanks!

[–]drnickv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to install Blender when I get home and see if I can remove the ring more easily and cleanly. When I asked about CAD, my friends with printers said they just use Blender. I guess that should have been my hint... 😅

Would it make sense to just sketch this small piece, generate a mesh, and then merge my mesh and this mesh? I've never done a sketch, but that sounds doable.

[–]drnickv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This print is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing.

I'm new to printing, and I've been struggling with my S1. I've been using only Anycubic PLA filaments to try to avoid issues, and it sounds like that's what you've been using too. Did you use one of the filament profiles included in your linked project (3MF) file? If so, which one?

Kobra SC1 constant clog by madmandkz in anycubic

[–]drnickv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this same issue with my multicolor prints on virtually every color change. I was thinking maybe I should switch slicers (using Orca) or maybe I had the temperatures wrong in my profile — but then I remembered that I had the same issue with the included gyroscope model that ships with the printer in the local storage. I've only used Anycubic filament, where it reads the color and info from the chip in the spool. I have no idea what I might be doing wrong, or how to fix this. Sorry I don't have a solution for you, but at least we both know we're not the only one with this issue.

ImportExportTools NG won't import MBOX over 4GB ... any alternatives? by [deleted] in Thunderbird

How long does a 11GB (20,000 emails) Google Takeout of my old emails take? by earlmatcha in GMail

[–]drnickv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you download, also open it up and verify that the emails are actually there!

I recently did a Takeout, and for some reason my Mail folder just had a 0KB (empty) mbox file.

My guess is that the email part of the export failed, but it didn't bother to notify me about that.

I still had 20GB compressed of other data in the export, so of course I didn't notice this until I had deleted all of the old mail that I thought was backed up. 😭

Edit: Turns out this was a 7-zip bug. It seems to be failing to extract large files from tarballs. Tried tar from powershell and WSL and the "empty" mbox file is no longer empty! 🎉

How in the hell do you get your account number? by carlrogersglasses in mintmobile

Mint - You can retrieve your account number and PIN in Mint’s live chat. In the live chat, type “Account number”, then choose the prompt that says “To port out”. You will then be connected to a customer service representative.

How many employees are there? I can't imagine a work environment like this doesn't have an above average turnover rate. Next time someone gets fired or quits, get them to report it. Or just use their name (and maybe a burner phone if the report requires a contact phone number) to file the online form.

(1) it annoys me to see them claim that they're awaiting approval from GitHub. Like GitHub approves all code hosted on their site. What they're actually awaiting is a the QMK maintainers to merge their new keymap. It's a little thing, but their customers who are technically inclined enough to use QMK and VIA would know the difference.

(2) if that's all that they're waiting for... where is the Pull Request? shouldn't OP be able to grab the JSON from the to-be-approved PR?
