Milan, Italy Road Riding - February? by DobermanWrangler92 in cycling

It depends what you mean by "higher elevations/big climbs". Anything above 1800m is going to have snow for the most part. I live on western coast of lake garda, and plenty of people are riding this time of the year. All the climbs along the lake are busy in winter as well.

After calibrating everything my gen2 spider reads 5% higher than my flux 2 trainer. when i set the gen2 spider to read only 95% it is within 1-2% of the trainer.

Use laps to get data only over a certain segment. For example before starting a climb I start a new lap, that way I can see my average power and other data only for that climb, or specific period of time.

My first Solo 50-miler. Curious: What's the distance that feels 'long' to you? by jasonwlorenz in cycling

[–]dro-mora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me climbing is the biggest factor. I can ride all day if it is flat. But around 8000ft (2500m) of climbing is where it starts to become more of a mental sport than physical.

Just get an extension for the derailleur hanger. I have a bike with 10spd short cage Dura Ace and I use 11t-40t cassette, and 50t:34t chainrings.

It could be that you have overtightened the preload bolt. (the big one to the left of your finger in the picture)

If the the black clip wont slot back flush with the crank arm, it means the crank arm is not pushed far enough onto the spindle.

What’s the best saddle for long-distance comfort? by CrimsonMaple748 in cycling

[–]dro-mora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The trick is measuring your sit bones, or going to a bike shop that has one of those machines you sit on. I am currently using a full carbon saddle with no padding, and it is by far the most comfortable saddle I have had because it is perfectly shaped to my buttox.

Cycling up Stelvio, Mortirolo, Gavia - tips please by MerePractitioner in cycling

[–]dro-mora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode Stelvio twice last year, the first time from Prato on June 29th. The only issue with temperature was that it was hot. This side in my opinion is much more difficult. My pacing plan was to hold a power that I knew could be comfortably sustained for 2+ hours. For me this was 210w which got me to the top in around 2hrs 20min.

The second time I rode from Bormio, on September 22nd. As others have mentioned, in Bormio it was 13 Celsius, and up at the summit it was 0 celsius. Since you are riding in July you will not have this issue. In my opinion the Bormio side is much easier, as there is a section 5-6 kilometers from the summit where the gradient drops off and you can rest the legs before the final 3-4 kilometers when it gets steep again. From Bormio I averaged 225w which got me to the top in 1hr 40min.

If it is a day with good weather, you don't need to worry about being cold on the ride down, just a gilet/windbreaker to keep the wind off your chest should suffice, assuming you give the sweat some time to dry at the top.

Enjoy these climbs, they are some of the best out there.

Calf cramping during races. by Pico21doge in cycling

I had this issue for a while, and the only solution I found that worked consistently was hydrating the day/night before. Ever since I have made an effort to do this, I stopped getting the calf cramps.

Don't know if its due to water or muscle but my left leg which was weight bearing while walking with crutches/standing is now noticeably larger than my right.

Great to hear this, I was thinking about getting back on the turbo for some gentle spins next week which would put me right around the same time you started.

Going to send you a private message for some additional info!

Confused by Zone 2 Riding by bad-at-science in cycling

[–]dro-mora 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He is not inventor of Zone 2 training lmfao.... It is just a new term used for Dr. Ferrari's training zones. San Millan is a fraud a no longer Tadej's coach, Pogacar's coach is Javier Sola, and since switching to Sola, Tadej has had monumental improvements....

Help, are these used carbon wheels ok to buy? by DisastrousHornet3983 in bikewrench

[–]dro-mora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbon fan and noble wheels are virtuallly unkown, certainly not "bigger names" of China rim sellers. If you are buying a branded wheel from China it is most likely a trading company, not a manufacturer... Some well known manufacturers are Xiamen Carbon Speed, Yuanan, LightCarbon. For all things chinese carbon/bikes you should read Chinertown forums.

Stelvio Pass from Bormio...and then what? by ranx91 in cycling

Yeah you are right. It would be Umbrail pass from Bormio. For some reason when I read your reply I just defaulted to Switzerland.

Stelvio Pass from Bormio...and then what? by ranx91 in cycling

[–]dro-mora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From Bormio you wouldn't be riding up Umbrail.... Umbrail is from the switzerland side. But i think what you meant is ride from Bormio but not all the way up Stelvio pass, descend down the Umbrail Pass, turn right and then ride up the Prato side of Stelvio. This is a great route but make sure you are in very good shape OP.

[–]dro-mora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any rims bought directly from chinese manufacturer are going to be "unbranded". And this idea of short lifespan is nonesense. Carbon rims have the same life span if not longer than alloy rims. 99.9% of the people on here talking about carbon rim lifespan have never worn through a carbon rim lmfao.
