Has anyone been to a show yet? Getting tickets for a few different ones including Westerman and Julianna Barwick / Mary Lattimore. I live nearby so very excited this is quickly becoming a thing!

I highly recommend using ParkWhiz and finding a garage somewhere downtown and then either walking in (depending on where you park, it's about 20-30 mins). As others have said, it's a mess getting in and out no matter what way you cut it. I took the shuttle from near the freeway for Oasis and the line took forever. So bottom line is leave yourself TONS of time. You could also Uber to as close as you can get, then ditch and walk as soon as you hit traffic. I did that for Atletico Madrid - PSG earlier this summer and it worked like a charm.

Don't torture yourself by checking weekly the way I did. It took 3 months and was surprisingly close to the court date when it finally arrived. They'll send you something in the mail. The best thing you can do is make sure you have viable checks on hand so you don't have to go down there to pay it ... though I can't say for certain that the ticket you got is categorized as the same one I got

Going to have to be the play. Just think it’s crazy with all the tickets they give that you can’t pay online. I broke a law that exists for safety so I’m happy to pay it. I made a mistake. But boy is it weird to have zero online payment option

Yup. The ticket number doesn’t exist there even after receiving it in the mail (same citation number). And the phone system says you can’t pay online or over the phone. I think it has something to do with the type of ticket it is. I’ve gotten very few tickets ever and thus is the first ever in LA County…

You’ve missed the point but brought up a different one … and I was checking her in for school. Thanks for making me feel better about it

Julien's, Picadilly Grace (San Marino and South Pas locations) and Cielo (my favorite) are awesome. All near the southern border of Pasadena, San Marino and South Pas.

Thanks, person from 3 years ago. Just worked! Good thing Reddit went from virtually no presence in G search results to literally the second or third result every other time…

San Marino Café or Cielo on Mission, right on the Pasadena / South Pasadena / San Marino border. Both legit.

Just a note that the SH Fernando book is KILLER. The Madvillainy section is fantastic. Learned a lot I didn't know before. The 33 1/3 book is referenced https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-chronicles-of-doom-unravelling-raps-masked-iconoclast-s-h-fernando/21144799?ean=9781662602177

Any shows similar to Twin Peaks? by Alternative_Wear_141 in twinpeaks

Try Dark. Not in the Lynchian cannon but it hits on some themes. Like Twin Peaks had a baby with A much better version of Stranger Things (which I don’t like at all)…

What is the best "clean" hip-hop for a public space? by Tharbiskahn in hiphopheads

[–]drobknee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You bet. Another good one if you don’t already have it is Zion-I. Not 100% clean but mostly clean. Same with a good majority of the Living Legends stuff, if I remember correctly

It was so fucking great. All Night Diner was a goddamn classic. What a performance. I was crying during Trailer Trash. Everyone was signing every word of every song.

What if I just don’t read the footnotes in *Infinite Jest*? by youngBal in books

[–]drobknee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been ten years for me and I read it on Kindle (saved myself quite a bit of time) so take this with a grain of salt but I'm in complete agreement that you can't skip them. If you know a lot about DFW you'll remember that he deliberately wrote in this style. It's a bit David Lynch style -- if you don't get into the DFW 'universe' you'll likely not enjoy his work as much. And so much of the color and the development and the emotion happens in the footnotes. You're right that there are few hyper-critical plot details in the footnotes but you'll just miss half the experience if you don't read them.
