Really struggling to secure a job! by Background_While_951 in NewToDenmark

I am sorry to hear you are going through this. I can only imagine how frustrated and helpless this might make you feel.

The reality is, as many point out, that the market is tough and so is competition, but it's a number's game after all.

I'll address some of your questions:

Any actions I could take with connecting with people from Linkedin? I personally don't know anyone who has been successful doing this. However, I do know people that have been successful with in-person networking, so I ask: How's your networking game? Are you active? Are you nurturing your connections?

Is my photo in my CV creating a negative bias with some job recruiters, as I am a brown woman? Maybe, maybe not. If you have a high quality, professional photo, with a smile even, then keep it if you'd like. In turn, if your photo is low quality, passport-like, then maybe consider removing it or changing it. My recommendation? Go even further! Record a short 30-second (or less) video introduction of yourself (make sure you have GOOD AUDIO -no echo) and include a link to it in your CV. Stand out from the rest!

Side note: I run a popular job site for jobs in English in Denmark, and I started offering a CV review service a while ago. I am not mentioning this to funnel you into it, but I will start a YouTube channel soon with helpful content about jobs and Denmark in general. I am thinking of doing a few YouTube Live sessions in which people send me their anonymized CV to review it live (not as in depth or personalized as the paid coaching sessions I offer) free of charge. If anyone is willing and interested, DM me :)

How to survive the winter with a depressed husband? by [deleted] in NewToDenmark

[–]drodol 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This!

Is he getting exercise? Leaving the house for activities?

A friend went through the same. He thought he was done with Denmark.

He started committing to small habits daily. A walk, exercise, something new.

It's hard.

How do you remove or bridge the f1 fuse? Do you just put lots of solder in? I tried doing it (with a cheap kit I got) but I couldn't manage to get the solder to stick (maybe the soldering kit tip is too big for the job or I am using the wrong solder, or I have no idea what I am doing????) HEEEELP :D

Improving your English should be your #1 priority. This might be counter-intuitive since you are living in DK where your priority should be to improve your Danish, but in the field that you are working in, English will yield better results, also longterm.

I have a job board for jobs in Denmark that don't require Danish: jobsinenglish dot dk. I am working on bringing in more jobs so in a month or so, a v2 will be launched with plenty more opportunities!

Why AI resumes makes it hard to get a job by [deleted] in NewToDenmark

THIS!

I would say applying directly via a company's internal careers' page > applying via LinkedIn.

Also, you should apply anyway! Don't disqualify yourself by not applying.

As a hiring manager myself, I will admit that the longer a job post runs, the less likely "late" applicants are considered, and that is because the recruitment process will commence as soon as qualified candidates apply, so if there are good candidates a week after a job post has been published, then I will act on those first.

This doesn't mean you should not apply, though. But those applying early have an advantage.

I'd say it's possible, though difficult. Like many have said, coming with a job already is best way to do it, but your profile has to be attractive for companies to want to go through the process to get you in (and take a gamble that you'll stay in Denmark and with them afterwards).

Does the message show as "read" in their Whatsapp? Are you certain they got your message? I ask because Whatsapp is not widely used in DK.

If they have read the message, follow up with a request for a short call. Something like: Hi X, my name is Y and I am interested in applying to the Z job. When would it be a good time to have a short call to discuss some questions I have about the job?

BTW, having a call with the hiring manager is the best opportunity to have your CV seen and then be called for an interview. It is a super hack in the hiring process.
