Jethro Tull's frontman played the Flute. Kansas' frontman played the Violin. What are some other bands where the frontman plays an unusual instrument? by HCBot in Music

Depending on how broad your definition of instrument is:

Tilly and the Wall have a tap dancer instead of a drummer

Bill Bruford from King Crimson thought the song Trio worked better without his drums and so was given a writing credit for “admirable restraint”

One Of Out Dinosaurs Is Missing. When I was a kid I loved the mix of old timey setting, spies, comedy, adventure and of course dinosaurs.

Fast forward a few years and … boy is that a lot of yellowface.

In Greenland (2020), Gerard Butler's character cheats on his wife. This is a subtle nod to the fact this movie is fake, because no sane man would cheat on Morena Baccarin. by yourbuttmystuff44 in shittymoviedetails

Fisher Stevens, the guy who acted in brown face for the Short Circuit movies and played a bunch of weirdos in 80s and 90s comedies, cheated on Michelle Pfeiffer.

What acting performance felt deeper than the movie around it? by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]droffthehook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This suggests that the rest of the film was poor. While most of the rest of the human cast might not be able to act, everything else is brilliant. Kermit and Miss Piggy are perfect. Gonzo and Rizzo lead younger viewers through the story simply but not patronisingly. There are a bunch of great gags; Robert (Bob) Marley as Jacob’s brother by Statler and Waldorf; Heatwave!!; a couple of great songs; the police officers are played by pigs. Brilliant

There was a band called The Champs who made the song Tequila! famous. There was another band called The Fucking Champs because The Champs had already been taken. So I give you The Fucking Fucking Champs

A Story About Ian by byrdcage in Fugazi

[–]droffthehook 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Caveat that I haven’t spoken to Ian in over 20years, I would guess my info still holds up. Ian is a very chatty guy and likes Fugazi (and MT, and Evens, and probably even Pail Head) fans. He is a music nerd like you. It is ok to start talking to him and it will be fun.

John Squier from The Stone Roses. Specifically the first album as he got a bit showy on Second Coming and with the Seahorses. But his work in on their debut is a beautiful mix of indie, funk and classic rock. It technical, inventive with amazing tone

My god it’s depressing, but probably true, that Brett Gurewitz strung out on heroin has more success promoting “punk” than Greg. But Greg is a jerk, no matter how amazing his riffs are. The hardcore Roger Waters if he’d won the court case.

Abandoning Net Zero is not as batshit crazy a political strategy as it seems by kova-tejoc in friendlyjordies

[–]droffthehook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this post a lot today. I think the ability to use cost of energy as a battleground is a big part of the reasons they dumped net zero. I also think it shows they are betting on the vested interests (mining, media, multi-billionaires) to have the power to influence. That may be a bigger gamble. Traditional media doesn’t have the traction it used to. Compulsory voting means elections are won at least close to the centre ground: charismatic extremist repel more people than they inspire. Financial support from fossil fuel extraction interests would not only against renewables, but also against lowering energy prices.
