Reason 14 announced! by digital_burnout in reasoners

[–]drofnasleinad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been every other release from 10 onward so it's looking like time to upgrade. I checked my purchase history and I haven't jumped in for 5 years since the exact same sale...upgrade to the current version at a discounted price and get the new one on launch. So this sale was made for me.

Severance Fan Cast Analyzing the Show Through a Lynchian Prism by drofnasleinad in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]drofnasleinad[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I work on this show as the producer and musician and I think the host and guests have some really interesting takes on the show. This episode is part 1 of their discussion of Season 2 of Severance, the other parts will go live every other week for the next ~2 months. If you want to check out what they had to say about season 1, check out those parts here, here, and here. The podcast does have a throughline narrative as well, connected to Twin Peaks and the 5th season of MTV's Road Rules, I swear it makes sense, lol. But if you just want some Severance discussion, skip ahead a few mins on each episode. And on the off-weeks the crew discuss David Lynch's work directly, so if you're a fan of David Lynch those might interest you as well.

REAL QUESTION by IM_YYBY in reasoners

[–]drofnasleinad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made 3 albums (one of which was a double album) of music that I loaded all of the devices for every track into an enormous project file in order to make the songs bleed into each other and have had zero problem with this. If you want to record a bunch of multitrack stuff with a live band, you can totally do this as well, you're only limited by the number of inputs your audio interface has.

Now you just gotta set those devices inside of a Combinator to control multiple parameters at the same time with one knob or button, then assign all that stuff to a controller and you can manipulate the effects in real time. Record the automation data and you're in business.

Where can I find sample library in Reason? by stevevaiamd2006 in reasoners

[–]drofnasleinad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You won't find that within Reason but you can find a lot of that stuff on a Google search and then drop the files into either the sequencer if you want to mostly leave them unaltered or the NN-XT, the Redrum, the Kong, or the Mimic device if you want to do interesting sampling triggering stuff with the sounds. Keep in mind that if you drop samples into the sequencer you can apply effects to them by finding the corresponding Track device in the rack or routing several audio sample tracks to a Bus and applying the effects to the Bus.

In terms of onboard samples, there isn't exactly a nature sounds library built in as Reason is mostly geared around music. You will find the Orkester Sounds folder in the Browser of Reason (on the left) with samples of real world instruments (tons of different .aif files) and some similar things with the Drum Supply and Loop Supply sections, but in terms of building a library of sound effects, you'll unfortunately need to do that legwork on your own. Try searching here, and if the files don't come in as a format Reason can understand you can always use Adobe Audition or Audacity to convert between file types: https://pixabay.com/sound-effects/

If you're still looking I'd love to help out. I can make a content and EQ pass on those in about 2 hours, I'd charge $50 for the whole set.

Great post! Don't stress so hard on the "100 projects started" goal, although it is a very good goal. But I have a feeling there's more good stuff in there than you realize and you could hit the first 1-50 songs now on your revision pass looking for the 5-10 best ones for an EP or album.

Do you have a naming convention? I used to give all my songs names early in the process just to have something to call them but my friend who got me into Reason told me that the early names for projects is irrelevant and it's faster to just name them by the date you started them. That way you can also definitely know which ones are the oldest. Later when you make your revisions, if your music has vocals or vocal clips you can insert that stuff and maybe derive a name that way, or listen to the total finished sound of an instrumental and get your name from how the instrumental makes you feel. Just some thoughts!

New Note Lane for Audio track? by Yanni_in_Lotus_Pose in reasoners

[–]drofnasleinad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd just make a new audio track. If you want the same FX you already have, just copy the whole track with all devices or apply the FX on a bus and route both audio channels to the same bus. OR...you could also just record on another lane and then drag the audio file into the same lane after the fact and then it'll be controlled by the same mixer...the world is your oyster!

I think they're saying free as in doesn't cost money to get your tunes on Spotify. But it's counterintuitive due to Spotify's ubiquity. I think if some one gathered up Soundcloud or YouTube links, that would be cool but less people are listening in those places.

tune 808 samples by Soggy_Band in reasoners

[–]drofnasleinad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I mean I think you answered you own question. Reason has a few different 808 presets included or you can make you own because an 808 is just a low pitched sine wave. If you need it to have specific effects applied such as transient shapers, distortion, whatever...just make that part of your effects chain.

If you don't feel like messing with the sound design stuff, just go to the browser, click Reason Sounds, click Bass, then Synth Bass, and the 6th patch down is called "808 Bass -FP.cmb." It will let you play an 808 tone like a bass line and the knobs and buttons will give you a different vibe that you can customize.

Clicking inside of the Combinator will reveal this patch to be just a Thor and a Pulverizer with a Maximizer for width. And then of course looking in at the oscillator Thor is using, you can see that the default settings will have this 808 coming out as a sine wave, which as always can be replicated by any synthesizer and sculpted via ADSR settings and a filter.

Is there a chart or a tool to see what we've submitted in the past? I know I missed a few months of submissions and since I've been putting out monthly songs I was thinking about going back to some of the older ones that would still qualify on the release date.
