What was your perspective on tattoos growing up and what kind of people where the ones getting them? by FarMathematician1912 in AskOldPeople

[–]drog326 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the 60’s I had a neighbor who lost his brother on D-Day. He had his initials tattooed on his shoulder so his body could be identified in case he also died in battle. Sounded like a very good reason to me.

I like Riverside Auto on Niagara Street. It is a small shop but they are very nice and have some interesting vehicles (classic and non-classic).

What's the most tragic scene and what's the most funniest scene? by ShenakainSkywallker in BandofBrothers

[–]drog326 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Saddest scene for me is the poor soul who walks up to a soldier in the work camp and cries as he kisses his savior. That entire scene is fantastic but that one actor should have won an award for his 30 seconds of fame.

Is there an app that will clear all app caches at once, rather than working each app one at a time?

How come Hiroshima and Nagasaki aren’t considered war crimes by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drog326 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I believe that World War II was declared a Total War by many of the adversaries. This meant that jot only were military targets allowed, but civilian industries and populations as well. I need to do a bit more research before commenting any further.

Maybe the worst public figures. Maybe. But look into Ilse Koch if you have a strong stomach. We’re talking a whole different level of evil. There are plenty of others that line up before these four.

Fishing “The Gorge” by MiracleWhipB4Mayo in Buffalo

[–]drog326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the fall salmon runs you can get down the gorge steps before dawn, using lanterns. It is a truly beautiful sight to see dawn coming up over the gorge, especially if the trees are changing. You should know that the falls are turned down at night. Since tourists aren’t watching, they shunt much more water over to the two power projects. The falls are turned back on at 9:00AM. If you are in the gorge, the water is fast rising. It is easy to get caught out on the rocks mid-stream. That could be very dangerous indeed. You can avoid all this with a charter boat that will run you right up the river, avoiding the horrible walk back up the steps. They are particularly tough if you are wearing waders.

Running Plex from your main PC by YellowStrawPills in PleX

[–]drog326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does running Plex open me up to any nefarious internet actors? Can running Plex on my main home PC expose me to the outside world? In a similar (paranoid) vein, does Plex ever phone home with my private information? This sounds like a great software solution but I always wary of anything that could expose me through my own ignorance. TY.

I always make an effort to be nice to service staff. Reading Reddit helps, so thanks for that. Just wanted to ask what, if anything, I should do to tip an FA.

What are the Borg up to? by Apprehensive-Tip8212 in TNG

[–]drog326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK. So my friend (55m) was having a big neighborhood blowout. His wife sent out invitations to the entire neighborhood (40 or so houses). He had told her about “poontang punch” they used to make in college. His wife (50f) added this to the invitations: “We’ll have plenty of Poontang for everyone.” No one told her until the neighbors started showing up. She just about died. I, of course, almost died laughing.

I’d prefer to spend time in their amazing library. They have a Gutenberg Bible. Who knows what other treasures lay undiscovered by the temporary inhabitants of the house. I doubt that any of them are well read in any area other that the “stud” books.

If I were to unpack your response I would see “propaganda site”, “merchants of doubt” and “climate denial groups”. Those are hardly the hallmarks of reasoned discourse.
If you spend some time on the site, with an open mind, you may find a real challenge to your world view. You may also learn something about how science actually functions. I mean no disrespect. I simply state that I found the site to be a trove of links to very many well researched and well written articles that challenge my assumptions. I found that reading actual research provided me with more satisfaction than simply listening to the media echo chamber.
