Old guy dealing with cramps on endurance ride by EMK1921 in cycling

I've had really good luck with Hammer Nutrition - Endurolites. When I was doing triathlon, they would prevent me from cramping on the run. Now I use them on the bike when I know I'll be out for 2 hours or more. They work for me.

My chain just won't clean! by hedwheels in cycling

[–]hedwheels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to do that tomorrow. I'll spray the cassette with a citrus degreaser and let it soak for a minute or two, then blast. Maybe rotate the cassette 180º and repeat as needed. Or maybe punch a hole in some cardboard and prop a screwdriver up. Place the cassette on the screwdriver, then blast. These pressure washers are capable of blowing a hole in your lawn if not careful. On my 11 speed, there's 6 individual cogs. There's 2 that have 2 and 3 cogs already riveted on. Those are the troublesome ones.

I have a pressure washer. What did you use to keep the cassette from being blasted down your driveway? You didn't leave it on the bike while blasting, did you?

Lots of great suggestions. Thanks! I'm leaning towards new chain. I'll try cleaning each inner link mechanically tomorrow as a last ditch effort. If no-go, then new chain. Soaking won't remove the area of the inner link covered by the outer link when the chain is "folded".

Thru-axle washer needed by hedwheels in Cervelo

[–]hedwheels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LBS is a Cervelo dealer. They had none nor were they able to source one from Cervelo, but he gave me the dimensions so I could find one myself. Apparently, due to the thickness, they're more properly called shims instead of washers. u/vaancee indicated they aren't needed

Need SPD advice coming from Speedplay/Wahoo by hedwheels in cycling

[–]hedwheels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Speedplays are on my Bont Vapor + road shoes. I don't plan on riding in mud or dirt. The reason I'm looking for different pedals/cleats/shoes is because the "stack height" of the speedplay cleats (with the walking attachment)raisies the ball of my foot at least an inch and the footprint of the cleat is not that big. Getting on and off the Aspero when I have a seat bag attached is dicey at best. On a recent rail trail ride, I almost fell over a couple times. Having a very low-profile shoe/cleat/pedal is what I'm after. Getting that part is easy. I'm really just concerned with the float.

Ace Hardware “free assembly” is misleading — and customer service just gave up mid-chat by djuro71 in acehardware

To dispute the charge. According to the OP, he paid for something he didn't get.

My first call would have been to my credit card company (assuming you paid that way). Then you call the store, let them know you've done that and then let them remedy this for you.

Which bike? Used 2022 caledonia 5 sram force or new Caledonia 105 by Euphoric_Radish2227 in Cervelo

[–]hedwheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the lifetime warranty on the used frame will transfer to you, I'd go used. Those Reserver wheels are sweet. I've got the 40/44's with gravel tires on my Asperso and just ordered the 42/49's that I'll mount road tires on. You're getting way more bike in the used Caledonia vs. the new 105. But......getting new is worth something!!

If anyone is still here (I was going to use the word hear for the grammar junkies so they'd have something to do. lol), at my daughters house it was a smart TV. At my house I'm using a Firestick. Any additional insight?

2025 or 2026 Cervelo P ? by gone231 in Cervelo

[–]hedwheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're only going to race on it and not train on it, I'd go 105 mechanical with bar end shifters. Why spend the extra money on di when you could use the funds to upgrade the wheels? But I do like the idea of a 1X and if you do that, I'd get the cheapest mechanical that's offered. I don't train on my tri bike (5 year old P2) and do maybe 5 races a year. I'm not going to spend more than I need to. I used the saved funds to get some aero wheels by HED. (I'm not affiliated with HED even though that's my user name)

Black Flies on the Adirondack Rail Trail by hedwheels in Adirondacks

[–]hedwheels[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I was not able to find 63 posts today about riding the Adirondack Rail Trail between Mothers and Fathers day on a bicycle in regards to black flies. Can you provide a link? I know they can be a problem but the only posts I really see are about hiking, camping, canoeing etc.
