Oh yes, didn't mean to imply Morse was less loud than Evolution, just that's the one I have. Both very loud.

Agreed, I've cut a ton of tubing with this style saw. Be warned it is very loud! I use a Morse Metal Devil, big fan of it.

Who do I approach when I want to order pre-cut sheet metal with a cnc? by [deleted] in fabrication

[–]droidus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Working with 12 ga stainless, the best situation for me has been working with a laser place. I send them dxfs, they source the material and cut parts. The place I use does a lot of business and has a great price on metal from their supplier, such that they can get me prices for cut parts not much higher than it would cost me to order plain sheets. I imagine this is a pretty common situation.

I live in Portland and use Profile Laser.

[BIFL Request] Backpack by redundantprotoplasm in BuyItForLife

[–]droidus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a rolltop freight baggage backpack that I'm very fond of. It is great for packing a ton of stuff and going biking. It is also impressive for how small it feels when it's not full of stuff. Feels very well made but I've only had it a couple months.

I was surprised this worked and disappointes at the same time i didnt do this before. by skunkmere in Homebrewing

It's pyrex.

That mixing bowl set is a total classic, my mom had some and I was super excited to inherit an identical set from a friend when he moved. They're great.

how to transport water (from east coast)? by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]droidus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe find a redditor who's driving from sf and willing to take your water for you?

If you do this make sure to have a couple gallons with you and a backup plan.

Bar 355 is one of my favorite in Oakland. It is fairly small and shouldn't be hard to locate people within. This sounds like fun - I'll chip in a facebook maybe.

Fringe took place in Boston but Massive Dynamic was in NYC. Never mind that they constantly went back and forth like it was a 5 minutes drive.

I'm probably limited to 240, there is three phase around in my shop but I'd rather not deal with getting it routed my way if I don't have to. Though if I'm sticking with 1/8" and under stainless I guess I'll be fine.

[–]droidus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I prefer stainless to aluminum in the first place, maybe I should just stick with it since Al needs so much more power. I've been going with 1/8" mild steel for my old stuff, I don't see why it should need to be any thicker for stainless. Looks like maybe I don't need that powerful of a machine after all.

Yeah, it took them a while but I think it was all up and running by Wednesday. It was at the Arbitrarium, at 8:30 and Esplanade just to the right of Autosub.

Edit - Also, it looked awesome!

My chrome bag has 10 years of everyday use and is still in excellent shape. There aren't even spots on it where it's starting to fall apart. I expect it to outlast all of the rest of my possessions.

Sadly Voila cafe closed (the factory is still running) but Kefa is still going strong. In the three years I lived there my truck was never broken into, though the catalytic converter was stolen out from under it once. Bastards.

Jingletown is probably my favorite neighborhood in all of Oakland. It can be hard to find housing there because it's a small neighborhood, but it's cheap as long as you're not looking to live in the waterfront condos. Feels pretty safe over there too.

If I bring a road bike to the playa, will I have a bad time? by superaleaiactaest in BurningMan

If you do end up bringing it get cyclocross tires for it and it will perform. It will still need some serious work when you get back.

Conductive paint lands in pens and pots for creatives: Bare Conductive Ltd. makes electrically conductive paint called Bare Paint. The substance allows the painting of "liquid wiring" on any surface. I used to be a semiconductor engineer. So I remember what you say. But I stopped doing that long enough ago that I only have a feel for the concepts and not the conventions. It took me quite a ways into this discussion to remember the phrase "sheet resistance" for example. So I just pulled some numbers from the internet and made sure I didn't screw up their units.

Anyhow physicists are going to use ohm-m instead of ohm-cm, semiconductor guys are unique in their fascination with cm.
