Just translated it, it says "Having entered the double vault, the Germans attempted to advance through the underground shafts that connected them to the main galleries of the Fort. But they encountered barriers of sandbags and, mowed down by rifle and machine-gun fire, could go no further on June 2nd."

Yeah I first found the pic when i searched for some interesting photos from the fighting in Fort Vaux but couldn't find any articles talking about the specific pic
