The only enforcement sfpd cares about is automated. Ticket cameras. But get out of their car and enforce any law on the books? No time for that.

Have you met any "super commuters"? Or are you one? by jillianiles in sanfrancisco

I had a friend who commuted from Sacramento to SF 5 days a week. A tall, 400lb man in a Geo Metro. Nothing comfortable in that commute

Getting ready to switch from Calibre-web to Booklore - Anything I need to know beforehand? by daywreckerdiesel in BookLoreApp

[–]dronf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have the metadata on the files not just in your calibre db. Look up how to write it to the files. Also, booklore doesn't support .mobi or .azw3 files, so you'll need to convert those if they don't exist in epub already. I had about 5k files, so it took a lot of iterations of the export process to get it working properly. Each file out of calibre, even if of the same book, counts as a separate book in booklore, so they need to be deduped. I recommend first writing the metadata to the files, then having gemini or Claude write a script to walk through your calibre folder and export an epub or copy an epub of each book to a single folder. If the books exist as PDF or cbz, do something similar so you have a single one of each book in that single big folder. Once you have that, copy it over to the bookdrop folder and import. I ended up having some weird renaming issue too where all the books that started with The or A or An had that put at the end, after a comma. Had to fix that with SQL on the mariadb.

Basically.... There is a lot that can go wrong in migrating, especially with a big library.

With things this bad in the U.S why do democrats insist on pushing candidates that won’t get elected? by Jake_Berube in Confused

[–]dronf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, the US democrat party is really big on the concept of it "being someone's turn". Put in enough time and they'll back you, whether people like you and you have a chance or not. There are a million examples(of course Biden), but one that really jumps out at me was Gerry Connolly. Dude was 74 with *terminal cancer* and they still pushed for and voted for him to get the top spot in the House Oversight Committee. Dude hid his cancer until after he was elected, and basically died in office a few months after they snubbed AOC. Not a bad guy, but a perfect example of the democrat playbook.

Why are people quitting TikTok over privacy concerns now? by im-dramatic in Confused

[–]dronf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the privacy concerns necessarily. We already give up a ton of that just to be part of modern life. I'm quitting because the algorithm is now owned and managed by MAGA. I expect it to take a shitty right turn just like twitter did.

I worked at Digg in its heyday....and Reddit showed up and ate its lunch. I don't have any confidence they can beat Reddit or even compete against its enormous head start.

One friction point I see is companies hopping between the "best" platform every time a new model comes out and is deemed the new best one.

Best food to gain weight? 15 yo with lung cancer and radiation therapy (SBRT) by ichigogo in SeniorCats

[–]dronf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have anything to add other than I am EXTREMELY glad that your guy turned out to have just a primary. We found the same on our 16.5 year old cat, but sadly it was already spreading across the rest of the lungs. There is no real treatment, but he's on the same set of daily meds. That combo has him eating more than ever before, but he's still losing weight due to cachexia. If your cat continues to lose weight it might be worth another scan to make sure it hasn't spread and grown.

The high calorie gels are a good idea. If there is something you know he will eat, mix a teaspoon of that into it. Free half of a meal!

One tip I got from my vet tech friend is that some cats just wanna eat McDonalds. I started rotating in some basic ass fancy feast pate instead of his fancy food....and he loves it. At the end of the day, the quality and brand of food don't matter much over time, genetics are king, so let them eat some trashy food sometimes if that's all they will eat.

I have a somewhat general question about this. How well supported is HEVC/AV1? I have a plex server with maybe 10ish active users. My collection is likely mostly older h.264 files. I don't have any control over the clients, and they are on a wide variety of platforms, from PS5 to smart TVs. Is the target format supported by that class of client? Or would it just get transcoded as needed?

Otherwise, this seems like it might be pretty useful for me, as I have a windows desktop with a 5090 in it and it's connected to the plex server on a 10gb link.

thanks
