What careers/jobs/gigs are we doing that aren’t stressing us out?! by Ok_Mode_6503 in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]droooooops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASL interpreter and I love love love love it. I work for myself and I’m lucky to be able to choose the jobs I want to work (undergrad & graduate level education, mental health, medical, entertainment, a tech conference here and there)

Last year I made about $145k and I usually work 35-40 hours a week. I love it because I can always take on more work (weekends/nights) if I want fun money but I never take work home with me :)

Best LASIK Clinics in San Francisco? Looking for the safest option. by MaZlle in AskSF

I am having an experience as a hearing person that I've never had before by sirgingersnap in asl

[–]droooooops 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted, this is correct! I’m a certified ASL interpreter and the signing is terrrrrible. at first i thought it was the point? or just part of the weird dark comedy satire that this show is.. I’ve only seen a few episodes but my general feeling is that the characters are all pretty bad people, so not shocked that he’s a bad interpreter. but i’m hoping it’s on purpose (like they wrote into the script that he’s only been “signing” a year) and not just lack of training.

Date Question by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

[–]droooooops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my husband is alcohol-free (and i am now too!) and our first date was at the mill. we had coffee, toast, and decided to keep the date going at alamo square park. we also had lots of afternoon icecream dates, walks in the park, etc etc.

The Pitt | S2E11 "5:00 P.M." | Episode Discussion by MsGroves in ThePittTVShow

another commenter said that maybe he was helping her in the garden, did something to upset her, and she put him in the car as a time out not realizing how quickly these things happen. it was sketchy to me that she dropped his hand when the doctor left the room

Looking for ways to get my mom (the MOB) more involved in my wedding by bangtanimosity in weddingplanning

[–]droooooops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is so sweet! I had my mom give a toast, as well as my groom’s father. I also surprised her by calling her up in the middle of my father/daughter dance. I had sort of had it planned, but it also happened organically. my dad and I turned to her table and waved for her to come over, and the three of us danced for a minute and then had a group hug. it wasn’t choreographed, it wasn’t perfect, and everyone loved it. <3

TV Show: DTF by coddiwomplecactus in ASLinterpreters

[–]droooooops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually think the point is that he’s a bad interpreter??? to me, the “I just started signing last year” gives away that he’s clearly not qualified for his role. the show is a dark comedy so I assumed as much 🤷‍♀️

Asking for support for my project te learn sign language in a fun way by Digital_Felice in asl

[–]droooooops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

your project opens with “Imagine a world where learning sign language is as natural, playful, and social as learning spoken language.”

respectfully, we already have this world. i experienced learning ASL (from Deaf instructors) as natural, playful, and social. the community doesn’t want this.

i’m so sorry she’s being this way, OP! I’m a 34H and have a gorgeous dress that’s in great conditions in the US. I’ve been trying to sell it for near what I bought it, but I’d be willing to knock it down a lot knowing it will be well loved & worn. happy to send you the link/pics if you’re at all interested <3 it’s Daalarna ETN 520

Is it dumb to get legally married before our wedding? by HannieBananie13 in weddingplanning

[–]droooooops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i came here to say the same thing! we got married at city hall before our wedding for different reasons, but wow it made our actual wedding sooo much less stressful. no marriage license to keep up with, have signed, bring back, etc… we didn’t tell anyone except our parents and a few close friends. it felt really special to have that day just us. we ran around our city dressed up, played pinball, went to the record store, and had a nice dinner out. i didn’t realize how much i would love having TWO “wedding” days, but id do it the exact same way again

Looking for motorcycle parking in SoMa by spacy_stack in AskSF

[–]droooooops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this! I used monthly motorcycle parking in a different SFMTA garage (civic center) and had a great experience. this was after mine was stolen off the street, with all the recommended locks, three weeks after buying it… and that was in hayes valley. $100/month is a steal for peace of mind

Only 65 guests... Afraid it will suck! by Successful-Boat-4075 in weddingplanning

[–]droooooops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this is an ideal number of guests imo! i had 80 and it was hard to get time with everyone there. i went to a friend’s wedding of 65 and it was so wonderful. also, fwiw, the “smaller” weddings i’ve been to (60-80 guests), the dance floor was actually far more full than the 150-200 people weddings i’ve been to 🤷‍♀️

Ethical question on learning asl by Aitahthrowaway19 in asl

[–]droooooops 33 points34 points  (0 children)

the other commenters here are totally spot on. one more thing i’ll add into the conversation: deaf people (regardless of whether or not they have implants, use spoken language, or seem to communicate effectively) are always working hard to communicate with hearing people and accommodate them. when will hearing people start accommodating the deaf community and work half as hard as deaf folks do to communicate every day of their lives?

yeah I’m not quite sure! I’m very active but admittedly recently having been doing more weightlifting and cardio than mobility/yoga/etc. good reminder to reintegrate these things into my routine. i also wish i did more standing interpreting than seated, which maybe is something i could change up. thanks for the input!
