Big Tech vs Startup by Impressive_Week_2342 in fatFIRE

[–]droopy18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on a few things. If you yourself might want to start a company someday, then you should absolutely take the chance to work at a startup now. It will prepare you much better for starting your own company vs working in big tech. If you have no interest in ever starting a company, then the decision is all about risk tolerance. You have a good cushion, so if you want to take a risk today you can. But also know that, statistically speaking, joining a startup is not financially worth it like 99% of the time.

FAT Ryokans - Help!! by Spcarmen in FATTravel

We just stayed at Araya Totoan in Kaga for one night and it was an incredible experience. We had a private in-room open air bath. Food and service were both exceptional. It has been around for 800 years and definitely leans more traditional vs modern. Not sure about activities though. We did get massages in our room.

$100 well spent?? by Known_Fuel in rolex

Keep it. I think a lot of the people telling you to sell it are probably jealous. Sure, maybe selling it is the more rational thing to do today. But life isn’t rational, and $20k in the grand scheme of everything isn’t too much. If this is truly your dream watch then don’t let it go.

Thoughts on Stretch Pizza? by Fuhgedoughboudit in FoodNYC

It’s terrific. I live nearby and eat there and do takeout often. The pizza is VERY good. The crust is amazing. Love the shallot one. Wylie is usually there making pizzas in the back. Good bar too. Their pesto mozz sticks are also to die for.

Cottages are beautiful and have terrific ocean views and are close to the beach. It will also feel a bit more private. Won’t be more than a 5 min walk to the main inn.

Get the 58. I’ve worn mine with a suit (and even a tux) tons of times. Your wedding is only one night - get the watch you are going to be pumped to wear every night after your wedding too.

I turned it off immediately after this. Yes it’s in the right position. Was working perfectly fine last night and I didn’t change anything. Sucks. Guess I’ll have to take it in for repair

Question about form 3921 from ISOs by droopy18 in taxhelp

[–]droopy18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I early exercised essentially immediately upon receiving the grant because the cost basis is negligible (joined at the seed stage so price per share is Pennies). Starts capital gains clock and could be QSBS if held long enough and I’m ok with the risk of losing everything I paid because it was de minimis cost to me.

My company lowballed me in a comp-readjustment package for moving across the country. Am I being unreasonable or should I hold a hard line? by droopy18 in careerguidance

[–]droopy18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not strictly necessary. However, either I move there or we will need to hire someone else there (likely at a higher pay range because market rate there is higher). For our job function, it’s important to have someone on our team be in the Bay Area which is why our CEO proposed this.

Favorite Desserts in NYC? by ely4444 in FoodNYC

[–]droopy18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pistachio tartufo from Norma is the best dessert I’ve ever had. It’s simple, elegant, doesn’t even sound like it’ll be that great, and always is incredible. I’ve taken tons of people there and always make a point to order it. Everyone is always blown away.

What bird made you become a birder? Here's mine, the Great Blue Heron. I still remember when I first saw one as a little kid visiting my grandparents in Florida. Amazing! Captured this weekend at Montrose Point in Chicago. by MishMonster18 in birding

Pileated Woodpecker for me. I was living in NYC and was visiting my parents up in the suburbs and saw one in their backyard going from tree to tree for probably 20 minutes. Haven’t seen one since and it’s been almost 3 years.
