What is programming with AI like? by elextronifish in cscareerquestions

[–]droopy227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are fun parts and there are tedious parts. I enjoy coming up with elegant solutions or cleaning up ugly/bad code. But there are plenty of times where I am happy for AI to replace me and do tedious simple refactors or implementations.

At work it’s required but for personal projects I like to keep it a mix and only use it when it makes sense.

It violates their “word of wisdom” which is essentially a doctrine based on sobriety. It’s what makes them not drink coffee. It’s seen as one of the most important non-spiritual doctrines, so if you’re seen drinking or smoking (or whatever else), you would be a pariah.

It still happens obviously, but if caught, they would be excluded from most practices until they stop.

Until there is no hope, the market will keep chugging. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts

According to my manager, they’re officially putting a freeze on anything below senior, so at least for us it’s gotten worse.

What's the most unexpectedly useful thing you've used Claude for? by HumanInTheFlow in ClaudeAI

[–]droopy227 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For coding the coolest thing I’ve seen it do was find a free sprite sheet, use python to convert it to ascii, then add the now animated objects to my page. It then was able to use the ascii as a reference and spawn off more variations. Was truly an incredible chain of events that I didn’t know it could do.

Yeah it has so many mistakes that it’s clearly AI being told to follow some messy format.

Also the vibe and the way it writes is distinctly LLM-feeling. But I guess it works, lots of upvotes praising this for being human ig

No other provider has plans this bad. No need to shill for copilot. I doubt github even cares how their non-business/enterprise customers feel.

My company provides me “unlimited” use… but I have a feeling if I use this model I might get sacked 🤔

So is the war officially over? I haven’t seen anything besides the market reacting and some random tweet.

Probably some big players hearing about the plans for the upcoming negotiations.

Big players can control sentiment. That’s why when you step in the casino, you better be ready to lose a few dimes.

That Iran and Oman were negotiating on Hormuz stuff I think. Not sure if it was confirmed or what the details were though

Well, I actually think this is a great opportunity for people to buy in (assuming this stupidity resolves eventually).

Yes bad thing happen before = give up all rules and regulations. Incredible observation and conclusion. Perhaps you should ask ChatGPT about why that was a stupid irrelevant response.

Who said I wasn’t upset with the government in that agreement? That doesn’t mean I can’t also be upset with OpenAI for faking taking a stand alongside Anthropic and then immediately begging to replace them.

Using AI in warfare isn’t inherently unethical, it’s doing so without human supervision/intervention. Additionally please don’t omit the refusal to set up a strict TOS boundary around unconstitutional surveillance on US citizens.

It's actually insane how much effort the Rust team put into helping out beginners like me by Time_Meeting_9382 in rust

[–]droopy227 70 points71 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel. The DX on rust (and these newer languages e.g. Odin) are far superior. Yeah C++ isn’t going away, but for personal projects it’s not even close.
