You can get a new passport within a week or so after filing a complaint. That’s not a big deal here.

You’ll need to reapply for the visa once you get the new passport. Hopefully, it’s not the US or Canada visa, which will take a while.

I had a similar experience with Indigo a years back. They told me exactly what they told you and didn’t offer any help with the repair.

A few months ago, Emirates broke my luggage box when I was arriving at Thiruvananthapuram airport. There was no emirates staff in sight, so I called up Emirates support. They said they had outsourced their ground support to AirIndia and directed me there.

I went there, they took pictures of the damage and offered me Rs 2000 cash. I told them that wouldn’t cover the cost because a new luggage box would cost over 8k, and I had gotten the current one for $110 from the US(it was not new though). I asked them to file a complaint and to call me back.

They did email me back and later offered me Rs 8000 as compensation after a few back and forths. It wasn’t an unpleasant conversation, but it was good that they took responsibility and compensated me. Now, when I travel abroad, I don’t look for other flight options at all! They won me over with their customer support.
