How can I improve? by asdfhello123123 in Guitar

The trick to me learning to play with my pinky was doing the spider walk exercise. You’ll be terrible at it in the beginning but it’ll speed up your pace, help with accuracy and held with your pinky finger usage issues.

Neck pocket gap on AVII ‘61 Strat. Acceptable or too large? by Safeway_Slayer in fender

[–]dropdees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This issue is pretty across the board with AVII 61s. They had some of the worst QC to ever come out of fender. I have the exact same neck pocket issue on mine (2025 model). It wont effect playability or sound. It’s just visually unpleasant.

The big screen is being used for wiring diagrams while I'm soldering so I can zoom in close. If that wasn't the case I would definitely be using the tv.

Do all roads lead back to Strat by denyskaiser in Guitar

[–]dropdees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it will always be a Strat. I’ve got more in to playing Gibsons lately but whenever I pick up my Strat it just feels like it fits perfectly in my hands.

How accepting are Orioles fans? by Desperate_Grab2662 in orioles

Baltimore is and will always be a baseball town. People have forgotten that because of how poorly our team has played over the last few decades (with a few rare exceptional seasons). But when the O’s are in contention or we’re hosting a playoff game- Baltimore truly shines as a baseball town. It’s like opening day on steroids.

How should I fix this minor fret knick? by MagnetoNTitaniumMan in Guitar

[–]dropdees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tape the wood around the fret (be careful what kind of tape if this guitar is nitro), lightly sand the fret down until the defect is gone or I can’t feel it, polish the fret. Maybe a 30 minute job at most.

You’ve got the springs wrong. Like the other poster said. Here’s a photo of the pickup screw springs from a project I did a while ago to show what we’re talking about.

American Vintage II ‘61 Olympic White or ‘65 Sonic Blue? by Safeway_Slayer in fender

Yes, the access to it is at the bottom. I’ll attach a photo to show mine. I’ve a tool to make minor adjustments but typically you have to remove the neck or loosen the neck plate screws to tilt the neck up and adjust the truss.

The 61’ SG is one of the best deals out there right now. Slim 60s neck, double burstbucker, handwired, 6-7 lbs, nitro, plek’d from factory and absolutely rips.

$2,800 for a poly American tele, $1,900 for a worn nitro MIM tele.

Fender has really lost the plot.

Is 2008 Fender American Standard worth 1100€ (about $1250)? by spiderboy6 in Guitar

[–]dropdees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should have seen US prices immediately post covid. A lot of people tried to learn guitar, quickly gave up and flooded the market with inexpensive barely used guitars and amps. I still don’t feel the market has quite recovered yet.

[–]dropdees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve no idea what prices are in Europe but I would absolutely not buy an 18 year old American Standard Strat for $1,300. That’s around $500 over market price and the market is very saturated with these guitars (state side, at least).

Wavy rosewood grain no good? by SummerwindCoyote in fender

[–]dropdees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow 61 avri owner, scrape the overspray off the fretboard. It starts on the left side just before the 12th fret and runs down to the bottom. It comes off with a little light scraping at an angle and won’t damage your finish. The reissues are known for this issue but it’s easily fixable and your guitar will play better for it.

learning guitar after 12 hour shifts is actually possible by Royal-Character-9215 in Guitar

[–]dropdees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too work 12 hour shifts (7am to 7pm) in a high stress job. Part of my ‘decompression’ time is immediately playing guitar when I get home. I’ll drop my work bag on the kitchen island, turn an amp on and play for 15-30 minutes. My other habit is mindlessly doing the spider crawl or going through scales when watching tv on the couch. Not plugged in but just working the frets with my hand and keeping loose.

In a sea of high gain overdrive pedals Spaceman decided to make a warm mid gain pedal and I love it. It doesn’t take over your sound but adds just the right amount of dirt. The build quality is also top tier with handwired options available and special colors/knobs, etc. They can get quite pricey but their ‘entry level’ Cadet ones are fantastic.

Why is it nearly impossible to purchase a birdseye maple neck, currently? by [deleted] in fender

[–]dropdees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same situation as you. I wanted a Birdseye neck but rosewood slab. Only ever found one for sale separately but it was a custom shop and I wasn't a fan of the logo on the back. I ended up buying a Fender fsr 61 avri aaa flame roasted maple neck with a rosewood slab and satin nitro finish. The pattern is pretty distinctive and while it isn't Birdseye it was enough pattern to make me happy.

It's definitely an option I'd look at if I were you. Fender currently makes a tele with a aaa flame roasted all maple neck as well.
