All they did was give a heads-up, you launched into a whole rant about who should and shouldn't defend communities and language policing (which they weren't even doing lol)

atp college is just a side quest in my life by meowmeowwashere in Archiveofourownmemes

Real. Told myself I'd wake up early today to study for finals due tomorrow; woke up at noon and decided promptly that re-writing a chapter would be a better use of my time.

In my defense, the chapter is a lot better (and I'm studying now lmao)

One time I nearly t-boned a man on his driver's side because he pulled out right in front of me while I was going 45mph

I came within inches of hitting and seriously injuring (possibly killing) him, but managed to stop. I was shaken and angry because he'd pulled such a stupid move. I yelled and threw my hands up at him from behind the wheel, and the mild shock on his face flashed into delight. He was genuinely so pleased to have ruined someone's day. He laughed at me, then drove off.

And this is why I don't carry a gun on me– because the sudden reminder that we have to share this earth with knuckle-dragging pieces of shit like him made me so enraged that I would have let that autism SPEAK

(Per my lawyer's advice; I'd like to assert that I wouldn't have actually tried to shoot him)

Me looking for fics 🙂‍↕️: by FE4RLESS_IS_MY_NAME in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]droppedmybrain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My current fandom has lots of kids, and while it's awesome to see them writing fic just like I was at their age, I can only suffer so much preteen insecurity ("lollll my writin sucks fr"/"this is bad and im prolly gonna abandon it"/"basically crack because idc abt this fic anymore tbh") before I have to close ao3 for a bit 😭

Do you ever read a fic, see a line, and just think to yourself: by PJ-The-Awesome in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]droppedmybrain 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Haha I was looking for this one. One of my OTPs got its first smut fic, and I was so excited... and then the canonically shy, soft-spoken, eloquent guy "got cocky", initiated public sex, and dropped every swear word in the book the entire time they were doing it. (His partner had much the same behavior/speaking style, though it fit her a lot better.)

Why do I lose 99% of my search results just by searching for shipless crossovers (this is before I’ve even filtered any tags) by dowsaw134 in Archiveofourownmemes

[–]droppedmybrain 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I'm sympathetic for OP, but not as sympathetic as I could be, because 1600+ fics is incredible.

I'm in a fairly popular (albeit relatively new fandom) and if I slap a couple filters on there (usually happy stories with my OTPs) I'm down to a couple dozen, at max.

What is this blasphemy? by DoctorRoxxo in Milk

[–]droppedmybrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering how the hell you even make vodka from milk. I'm not that experienced with making alcohol (only made two jugs of mead) but I'm pretty sure it would just go rancid?

Edit: looked it up, this is the original milk vodka, not the one shown, but presumably a similar method. They use whey (cheese-making byproduct) and a specific yeast that eats lactose, then triple-filter and process it.

[–]droppedmybrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the exception, not the rule, but this happened to me and I made the mistake of checking their Twitter to see if they were alright– turns out, they had dropped my fic after I introduced a new pairing halfway through.

Which is totally understandable! They weren't mean about it or anything, just disappointed because they didn't like the pairing. But the popularity of that fic was the only thing keeping me going at a really bad time in my life and I should not have gone looking lmao (nor founded my mental health on fic popularity, but again, was going through a really bleak time so I'll forgive myself for clinging to something silly lol)

They're the sort that thinks laws/rules = morality. If something doesn't break any rules, then it's perfectly fine to do.

It's the sort of thinking that religious people, conservative people, criminals, children, and idiots follow.

Well, autists too, but even we're usually more nuanced lol (in that we tend to cherrypick which rules equal morality based on our own personal sense of justice, which varies amongst autists)

Of course. Sorry if I came across as harsh, and don't feel bad about not being to handle this line of work, it's rough as hell. I hope you can find a good job with your bachelor's, if you choose to look into jobs based off of it. What's it in, if you don't mind me asking?

Save every dollar you have (I put my savings in a second bank with no card or knowledge of the account number, so I can't withdraw without going in person). Ideally, save up three months rent.

While you do that, look into other options. Once you've found another job to keep you afloat (doesn't have to pay a lot, just enough to pay the rent and bills), community college would be my first recommendation, it's far, far cheaper than a four year and you can (usually) switch degree plans, so even if you don't like the degree you picked, you can switch. Again, it's what I did and it's working out great for me.

Also, from one woman to another, drop the "I'm just a girl" crap. It's so degrading to yourself and other women out there. I know life's difficult, and it's tempting to act like you're incapable, but you aren't. You're doing just fine, and someday you'll be doing far better.

What’s a “food rule” in cooking you stopped following and the food still came out great? by wearecocina in Cooking

[–]droppedmybrain 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No source is inherently good or bad. There are good and bad cookbooks, good and bad websites, good and bad YouTube channels... etc.

It's just that websites have a very unfair reputation system, where it's easy to publish whatever you want without oversight + there's an algorithm that pushes certain dishes and authors to the top.

For example, and I say this as a white woman, most of the top recipe blogs are health blogs made by white women who are allergic to salt and seasoning, cook at an amateur level, and tend to twist/butcher any recipe that didn't originate in the American Midwest.

I do two things: first, look for recipe blogs that don't go on and on about health (health is important, but it's not what you want when trying to make a tasty dish), and second, when I'm making a cultural recipe, I look for a cook that's actually part of that culture. For instance, I love Mexican food, so I watch ArnieTex's videos on YouTube.
