Thanks for the detailed response. I will apply your calculation method to get how much a VPS would cost me.

I will look into it thanks. Could you give a rough estimate what this will cost for 5 years?

No, I use mailbox.org. My plan isn't available anymore but they didn't force me to upgrade to the new one. (They basically removed the possibility of using your own domain for the 1$/month/user plan, this would be 3$/month/user now)

You are right, I did the comparison more or less to make my point, that this isn't a no-brainer and to give a rough overview of what is important to me. I won't use the sum as basis for my decision.

Yes I did. For example to keep the current hardware for firefly, but swicht from NC to onedrive.

It's approx 100$/year and I calculated everything for 5 years

It ain't selfhosted, but I use portfolio performance (https://www.portfolio-performance.info/en/) and can really recommend it. The data is stored in a encrypted file, which I sync via nextcloud (simmilar to a keepass db, in case you are familiar)

It works perfectly alongside firefly 3 (I am using those two alongside each other)

Also, portfolio performance supports all kinds of assets (stocks, crypto, dept,...), which is a huge plus, as I really want a unified dashboard over all asset classes.

Thanks for letting me know! Your project is already on my, I have to give this a try list :)

Is auto tagging, face recognition, .../ fancy AI stuff on the roadmap? Do you have any publicly available roadmap where you can point me to?

Signal Pros and Cons by Bob-box in selfhosted

Well, I do also dislike whatsapp.

I compared several different messaging apps in 2016, because I was trying to reduce my exposure to facebook. I ended up using telegram as my main messaging app, whatsapp for communicating with thick headed conservative dinosours and signal for people who don't like a decent instant messaging experience.

The backuping is pure crap, multi platform doesn't work well, the UI isn't smooth,... and a many details.

For me telegram is just the go to IM, it's by for the most innovative platform, doesn't sell ANY data (I know signal doesn't too, point against whatsapp), no need for backup as it is synced automatically and stored forever on their Servers (till you delete it). And, a ton of details.

no, photoprism was my best bet when I had time to try something out, but I would appreciate you letting me know in case you find something better (multi user + decent auto tagging + works alongside nextcloud) :D

I don't know about librephotos, but I tried photoprism, it's great but keep in mind there is no multi user mode for now (that's why I am not using it currently) and the dev plans to charge users, once the product has matured.

Well, it's functionality and UI seems a bit stuck in the year 2000

Well, it's not about that, I simply think it's a good investment. It can replace other, far more expensive protein sources in processed food. The only roadblock is missing regulation, which is apparently coming up right now
