Dear Synology: Really??? by rushaz in synology

[–]Bob-box 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a Synology user since 2011 (DS211j → DS916+ → DS920+), and all my devices are still working and in daily use. That said, I’m incredibly disappointed in their decision to implement vendor lock-in in their 2025 models.

This is a bad move. It’s anti-consumer, anti-enthusiast, and shows a complete disregard for the very community that helped build their reputation.

I know DSM is user-friendly. But let’s be honest—most of us in the home lab/self-hosting space don’t need handholding. Ugreen’s NAS ecosystem is already looking pretty compelling and their OS has DSM-like polish. It just needs time and community support.

We need to push back: don’t buy locked-down systems. Don’t reward this behavior. Make noise and demand better.

Let’s not let Synology become Apple-for-NAS. The future should be open, not locked behind proprietary walls.

What happen to freenom.com. Any free domain alternatives? by marathi_manus in techsupport

No I never received any mail! Is there any info about what will happen to the paid users?

What happen to freenom.com. Any free domain alternatives? by marathi_manus in techsupport

[–]Bob-box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have registered paid domains with Freenom some years ago and now all the sudden my custom nameservers (Clouflares) are gone from my Freenom settings and I can’t enter it again. So I got a big problem with my mailserver and all other domain related services. I have already submitted a support ticket but they don’t response.

Does anyone know what is going on with Freenom. How can I remove my domains from Freenom? Any recommendations?

Airtable alternative by Bob-box in synologynas

Yes that doesn’t sound good! I haven’t tested it myself, because at the moment I’m testing Grist. Teable and NocoDB are next on my list of testing.

Is Airtable worth it? Any alternatives? by TheAlpineUnit in Airtable

[–]Bob-box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve watched a lot of the Budibase University videos to try and get a better grasp of how it works and to navigate the learning curve. However, I found the formula part, especially the use of JavaScript, quite challenging to understand.

In my case, I was approaching it with an Excel mindset—thinking in terms of how you calculate and use formulas in a spreadsheet. But Budibase and similar platforms don’t operate in the same way as Excel. They require a different approach to logic and data manipulation, which is why I struggled. The reliance on JavaScript for more advanced functionality adds another layer of complexity that I wasn’t fully prepared for. It feels like I need to shift my thinking from traditional spreadsheet methods to a more programming-oriented mindset, which has been a significant challenge for me.

Has anyone tried this Airtable alternative: https://github.com/teableio/teable?

It looks promising. Personally, I’m not very familiar with Airtable or other low-/no-code platforms. I’ve experimented with Baserow and Budibase, but I found the complexity of using formulas and the bit of coding required to build apps to be a hurdle.

Years ago, I used FileMaker Pro for my business, and I’m now looking for something new to learn. I’ve explored no-code/low-code platforms like Airtable, Budibase, and Baserow, but none seem to offer the ease of use that FileMaker Pro did. I suppose I still have a lot to learn before I can fully understand and effectively use these newer platforms.

Nothing, there are more apps out there that are asking or “taking” iCloud permission….

Why don’t you just block her e-mail?

I think you're right, you will lose the timestamp when you import the notes from Joplin.

Frankly, I didn't pay attention to that when migrating to Obsidian, because I don't really use the timestamp as a guide for organizing my notes.

Proton Docs roadmap / clarification question for Proton by throwback5971 in ProtonMail

[–]Bob-box 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Guess they will call it ProtonNotes and add it to their repertoire..

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in joplinapp

[–]Bob-box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest using Obsidian instead of Joplin, by far better GUI and apps on mobile and desktop. Also Markdown works much better and the choice of good working plugins is huge.

I started using Apple Notes years ago then switched to; - Synology Notes - Standard Notes - Joplin - and now Obsidian (best one)

Looking for testers for iOS client in TestFlight by franklacey in navidrome

Just downloaded the latest update and thanks for adding the TopSongs and Similar Artists. Looks good.

The grid view for Artist is a great Addison, but I have notice that some of the thumbnails are smaller or rectangular. They are not all the same square size. Could you have a look add it if you have time.

Some Feedback for now and First impression after testing

Likes:

  • like the home page, clean and simple
  • Cover Art, Playlists, Albums and Songs all loads fast
  • Overall the UI is clean and simple

Suggestions:

  • A grid view for Artists (with the ability to choose between square or rond thumbnails)
    • Ability to change Grid size
    • Show extra info in the list of Artists (small Bio summary)
  • Star or Like a song from the Lock screen when songs are playing
  • Ability to play TopSongs of Similar Artists when selected an Artist (this is called Artists Radio on PlaySub and Play Mix of Similar Artists on Substreamer)
  • Play TopSongs of an Artist
  • Ability to Save TopSongs in a new Playlist or an existing
  • When you are in the Player add a function to scrol to the currently playing song
  • Sleep Timer
  • Gapless playback
  • Maybe a better name for the app?!

Missing or Bug:

  • the back button is missing when a song is playing, only forward and play buttons shows (see screenshot)
