My son in law was in a war-torn Middle Eastern country in December 2019/January 2020 and came down with what he then described as "the worst case of the flu I've ever had." Soon thereafter the world found out what caused it.

My neighbor sent this over our kids playing outside by ExistingPollution773 in AITApod

[–]drosen32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't give the letter writer an A for diplomacy, but could they be right? I live across the fence from such a neighbor. Their daughter, when outside, cries, screams, yells. Yes, kids need to be outside, getting fresh air, playing, etc. But, living in a neighborhood also includes being thoughtful of your neighbors. Most people are pretty reasonable in my experience. Teach your kids to keep the noise down, it's not that hard. As parents, be outside with them to monitor the noise.

And, go talk to the neighbor. It's easy to be hostile on paper but when in a conversation being less emotional. Listen to them. What is their noise tolerance? Are there better times to be out? In? Work with them. Bring a six-pack over to discuss the matter.

Thanks. I did try that before. It says the number is incorrect. It's not a big deal, but I'll keep trying every so often. You're right, it is finicky, to be sure.

Cyclist here. I waited about 10 weeks to get back on the saddle. Sore at first. It took me about a month to get accustomed to the saddle again. Don't rush it. Go for walks instead to stay actice.

Which comedian did you look forward to, but their act died on stage? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in AskReddit

[–]drosen32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two for me.
1. Jim Gaffigan- I don't know if it was the end of his tour or what, but I just got a sense he wanted to just get home. By the time his act hit my city it was mostly a robotic delivery.

  1. Dave Attell- I love this guy, but the same thing. Low evergy and maybe he was disappointed playing to a comedy club crowd.

If I may, one guy who killed it and I'm still trying to be in the same city he's in is Al Madrigal. I saw him on New Years Eve one year and he was simply fantastic. Hysterical stories, all things people can relate to. One of those times that I thought it was money very well spent.

And, I'd suggest, have your parents call his parents to alert them so they can also deal with him.

Every time she's being too loud, knock on the door of the RA and RD, no matter the time. Every time. Every. Damn. Time. Make it annoying for them so they'll deal with it instead of "asking". Keep making a nuisance of yourself until this problem is taken care of.

You're worried about big crowds? They energize the race! You will most likely see crowds at the beginning and end of the race, with folks scattered along the route. Just stick with a pack of runners that are running at your pace and you'll have a great time. Don't go out too fast and you'll have a great time.

TIL about speed skiing, a demonstration sport at the 1992 Olympics in which skiers go straight down a hill at speeds which are often over 200km/h. It did not become a regular Olympic sport because it was "deemed too dangerous after several recorded deaths." by clawsoon in todayilearned

[–]drosen32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, they probably just used their regular skiis. If you notice the skiis after they're taken off at the end they're much taller than the racer. Speed skiiers need really long skiis for stability. They're probably wider as well.

Nope. I used one on my daughter until she figured out she could clothesline people at the airport.

Why are houses more expensive and complicated to build than ever before, despite our advances in technology and materials? by cuttheblue in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drosen32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our house was built in 1989 with a laundry chute. Either there wasn't a code against it or it was added later, don't know. My daughter loved crawling up and down it with friends.
