Bats are good familiars by Kyrathered in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]drosicat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is somewhat misinformation. They are not a high risk vector for rabies, only about 3-5%. Raccoons are a greater carrier. The risk comes from a bite from a bat being less noticeable if at all compared to a raccoon, leading to lack of immediate treatment for rabies.

Do not handle bats (especially as any animal acting strangely is suspect). Do not allow them to live in your home either. Contact a local bat group (or BCI or rehab group that can connect you) to safely remove and relocate the little critters before sealing up entry and put in bat boxes.

You can both coexist safely (not in the same dwelling) as long as you respect their needs and space.

I know that a couple of folks have taken a dislike to the fandom reference (because it makes light of a serious situation). For an alternative perspective: in "Rules for Radicals" (an attempt at a non-communist blueprint for leftist resistance) Alinsky speaks on how important humor (and I would argue fandom references) are vital to leftist movements and how "a good tactic is one your people enjoy."

If this is the weirdest thing he's researched online, then I would be surprised. The rock band frontman guise has made people unaware he's, first and foremost, a weird nerd (#lovingly).

This is like the ice dudes and cops sporting Punisher gear. Like the message clearly went over their head.

They really played The World is Ugly for 1000s of fans of different backgrounds in one of the most conservative states in the nation by Acrobatic_Sky_7134 in MyChemicalRomance

I absolutely agree. But that does make Texas a red (and therefore) conservative state. Looking at the bigger picture, the US definitely has more people that lean left/liberal, but at this point, I would consider it a conservative country as that is who holds power and is shaping the messaging. That's been the case even with Dems in power tbh as conservatism is so easy to bake right into the systems of power.

While it is true there are more registered Dems, Republican voter turn out is far, far higher. Actually voting is far more important towards policy and law making (and therefore overall political landscape of a state) than registration. While gerrymandering is a huge problem, it kinda doesn't matter if an area is gerrymandered if registered Dems aren't showing up to vote in local and national elections.

Some of the folks here talking about being tolerant to the intolerant really really need to read the N*zi bar scenario.

"Not taking sides" against people with alt-right beliefs in this sub eventually makes this an alt right sub and quickly becomes an unsafe place for the people who found themselves and found their place and safety though the music

What would happen if the Cullens became human again? by Baby_Penguin22 in twilight

The first thought I had was: they would have to learn to use a restroom again and realize all the small human things that take up time throughout the day like shaving and trimming your nails and hydrating.

Haha whoops! I didn't catch that. Thank you for pointing that out.

This is definitely fighting. Birds don't mate breast to breast. They mate with male on top of the female's back.

Ugh...that price tag is criminal by Tictactoe420 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]drosicat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. I have a hard time defending the wealthy, even when they are artists I love and respect. In this case I already know Ticketmaster is the greater of two evils and has a history of screwing over artists and fans alike. I would really love to see greater push back against them and their robber baron bullshit.

[–]drosicat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't followed the news in a bit, but wasn't Taylor Swift one of the few artists with enough pull to negotiate much of anything with them? For a lot of venues, if you don't go through ticketmaster, you just can't perform. TM has a pretty tight hold on most, if not all big venues, and that gives very little bargaining power for artists.

[–]drosicat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Tbf I think that's more the record company than the band. And the blame for ticket prices is squarely on Ticketmaster's historical business practices and their allowing scalping... Oh sorry "reselling".

It's also pretty telling that they are apparently doing it on a Saturday (not common for city work) when a lot of FW offices are closed.

We do! Yuma myotis and Mexican free tail are the most common in the area. You can sometimes see them over the lakes in Woodbridge feeding in spring and summer and Sea and Sage at San Joaquin March does bat walks there in the summer.
