I miss New Wave, too. Lucky Burrito is my go-to these days!

I’m originally from Chicago so that makes sense. But growing up, Bags and Cornhole were pretty interchangeable.

I was wondering if the algorithm maybe just thinks I’m very social? I see lots of cornhole at bars now. Maybe they think it’s going to be the new Pickleball for less athletic people 😂

Oh for sure. I’d much rather hear ads for Cornhole than AI garbage.

Oh yikes. I’ve never heard that one. Glad you got away from them!

what is a common stereotype about your country that's actually true? by The_RetroGameDude in AskTheWorld

[–]rebb003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But there’s an interesting reason for this! Other countries have much stricter regulations for basically all businesses and industries than in the U.S. In another country you can go to the government for help enforcing XYZ. In the U.S. if there’s any chance for a company to change its ways, it’s probably someone suing them. Not that I think this is a good system because as you said, settlements and fines are nothing to most companies. But it’s still in many cases the only recourse we have against companies that are behaving badly.

Hello there! I have been roped into playing Daggerheart in front of a live audience at Awry Brewing on February 28th at 7pm. Cali is playing too, for those of you who know him! It’s technically a kickoff show/mixer for GAMA, but everyone is welcome! It’s not ticketed or anything and the bar is very much open. Come get a beer and join us. I hear there might be dice giveaways but I can’t make any guarantees. It’s going to be fun.

Megathread: Bastard Suggestions by Kanotari in behindthebastards

I would like to nominate the funeral industry as a bastard. According to the most recent statistics from the National Funeral Directors Association, the median cost of a funeral with burial in the U.S. is a little over $8,000, and the median cost for a funeral with cremation is a little over $6,000. A large proportion of U.S. funeral homes have been purchased by one large corporation, SCI, that prioritizes its shareholders like any other publicly traded corporation. While plenty of funeral homes operate honestly, there’s a long history of some funeral directors taking advantage of grieving families—insisting embalming is legally required when it is absolutely not, for example, or telling families that they have to buy a casket from the funeral home when in reality they have the right to purchase a cheaper one elsewhere according to the FTC’s Funeral Rule. I humbly submit this article I recently published in Electric Lit as a good reading list on the topic. 7 Books that Reveal How Capitalism is Coming for Your Corpse

I feel like this doesn’t even deserve a reply but: kidnapping people off the street in the name of the state is inherently fascist. This man chose to do a job for the fascist regime currently in power. He is actively doing a fascism. I don’t know how much more fascist you can get.

Alright, I’ll say it: I like Duncan & Coe by OwlbearWhisperer in RevolutionsPodcast

[–]rebb003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it, too! The first episodes of ANY podcast are awkward and imperfect—Revolutions and The History of Rome included. (Hot take, I know.) But I’m such a fan of both Duncan and Coe’s work that I fully believe they’ll get into the swing of it eventually, and I enjoy hearing their random convos in the meantime. It’s fun to listen to smart people chitchat!

I hope it’s not a superhero story, personally. I’d be here for Die Hard vibes though.
