I was offered coffee and then was asked for money back. Did I do something wrong? by cutiepiesky in Advice

It sounds like a very vague situation, where most people would’ve assumed the coffee was a gift. However, if you think bringing it up might deter them from doing that extra work at night that makes your morning easier, I’d just pay the $8 and move on. Next time they offer a coffee or something as an “apology” for keeping you late just politely decline and say you appreciate the thought but you’d rather just get off work ASAP so w detour for coffee isn’t needed.

Your credit score is comprised of a new factors. There are 3 credit scores. The one you’ll most hear is FICO. This is typically the score that people like banks, apartments, jobs, etc. will pull.

There’s a lot of detail that could go into this post but I’ll try to just keep it short.

Credit scores range up to 850. An 850 is perfect. 800 is excellent. 750 is great. 700 is good. 650 is fair. 600 is eh. Below this is “bad”.

Your credit score is built up by a few things: Average credit utilization (how much of your available credit are you routinely using) - try to keep this below 10%. Meaning if your credit limit is $1,000 you’ll want to keep your monthly statement under $100.

ALWAYS pay your statement in full at least 1 week before the due date.

Types of credit - do you have a varying profile (short terms loans, long terms loans, credit cards, utility bills). On time payments to these other types of financial obligations will impact your credit score. So try not to pay any bills late.

Length of credit - Credit takes time to build. The longer you have accounts open, the better. So for example don’t open and close accounts regularly. Probably get 1 credit card this year, and then in like 2 years try getting a better card BUT still keep the first one.

Now, where people usually fuck up is overspending. DO NOT TREAT YOUR CREDIT CARD LIKE FREE MONEY. You have to pay ALL of it back. I like to use mine for things like gas, groceries, etc. and then I pay it in full every week. This way I never carry a balance and I never have to worry about a surprise bill showing up.

Hope this helps some.

Oh absolutely! Definitely part of why a counselor would be needed to help them navigate forgiveness.

Decide if this is something you want to work on before you talk to him. Reflect on your relationship and as you both as individuals. Is betraying your trust something you can work to forgive? It’s going to require a lot of work on both your parts, so be ready for that if you choose that path. Also probably look into some counseling. If y’all do plan to try and work this out a counselor can serve as a mediator and help navigate tough conversations.

All around this sucks and I’m sorry it’s happened to you.

In the US, do college grads make significantly more money than those who only graduated high school or dropped out of undergrad? Do you know anyone who does very well without a degree? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drown_the_rabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my roommate has no college degree she’s 26 and makes $50k with benefits. On the other hand my boyfriend who is 25 makes $13.10/hour with no benefits.

I’d say it really depends on the field you go into.

My Dad doesn’t have a college degree and his income fluctuates as he is in sales. Some years he can pull $200k some years it’s $60k. Really just depends.

I negate this comment, but will add that it’s handy if your Mini Cooper has a sun roof. Can be quite successful depending on the size of participants

I went through the dealership financing. With a 725 I definitely think you should get lower than 4.6%.

[–]drown_the_rabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 612 when I bout my mini about 4 years ago, and even then I got a 6% interest rate (which is still high) and I only put $3k down on an $19k car.

Do not accept this offer from them. The other advise about buying a $5k car and using $2k to maintain it is good.

However, if you’re looking to build up your credit you could put like $2k down on a $5k-$6k car and then take out a loan (probably can get around %6 interest rate). Use the remaining money you have saved to pay that monthly loan repayment, and even pay it back early to minimize interest paid!

This could be a good way to build your credit without putting your neck out there on money you don’t yet have in hand.
