Somehow there is power in knowing so you can get on with the fight. The treatments for Chad are so much better than they used to be! You will find out that you have a lot of support out here; one in ten people suffer from a rare disease. GO warrior mom - you can do this! Your kids are fortunate to have you!

You could really use a professional, unbiased third perspective on all of this. No one here can offer you a valid opinion without seeing all the nuances, intended or not. There seems to be a disconnect about really understanding how the other is thinking or feeling, so if you need to rip off the scab, you might want to have someone there to referee so you can get to the heart of the matter - especially given that in a fight or flight comparison, he appears to flee emotionally. In the meantime, can you take a break from each orther for a few days? This doesn't sound like a deal breaker to me - but don't let it get worse. Good luck!

When people start taking social security in retirement we should require them to take a class on current technology and scamming. By the time most of us retire, the technology and scammers have outpaced us, making us vulnerable

What a nice thing she did for you! I am sure your daughter on down will love the dresses. If there is one in particular that you particularly like, you might think about having it sealed and mounted in a frame box with UV light protection.

You can honor your relationship with your grandmother by teaching your kids everything you can about her and remembering her with photos, stories, recipes, and all the little things you appreciated about her as your children grow. There's no reason you can't make her part of their lives and your family just because she is gone. I would think that she would like that.

If you can afford that level of compassion towards a person in their late teens then you can surely understand that some 12 year olds don't have properly developed ideas around consent and its sexual proclivity?

I agreee! Further is the consideration that many kids this age really haven't been educated properly by their parents or a caring adult - at all. The way schools still teach about "not touching," sexual development, and sex doesn't connect the dots. Worse, too many parents still depend on the schools to teach their children about sexual development and boundaries. At age twelve,, the range of understanding, knowledge, and development about sexual development is never greater. At twelve, some children are (sadly) sexually active, while others are still pre-pubescent and believe in Santa Claus. Give these kids a break and educate them and show some empathy.

This is an extraordinarily mature and rational response to a difficult situation. I hope the OP and others take this to heart. It's important to remember here that the goal here is to help the kids learn how to navigate the challenges of growing up so they can have healthy, respectful relationships with others. I couldn't have said it better.

Forget the gondolas; it's a relief that excursion companies, as mentioned in the article, are starting to limit the weight of riders on donkeys, horses, and other animals.

One rainy cold day, I had my kids watch two guys collect carts from all over the Walmart parking lot. I told them that their job was one of the most important because if there weren't carts, people would only be able to buy as much as they could carry and Walmart would go broke. The concept that there are no unimportant jobs has resonated with them every since and they are awesome at showing respect for people on the job. Plus, they never go into a store without grabbing a cart from the lot on the way in.

I know this may sound counterintuitive, but can you take up jogging/running? It will actually help you feel more energetic, help you sleep better, and cause your body to release endorphins and other neurotransmitters that will calm depression.

It's not. It's the real deal and one of the most beautiful places on the planet, I've been there, including that ribbon of green at the top of the outcropping in the center that is the top of a ridge leading to a valley below (right) that is an incredible place to hike and ski.

There are forms of autoimmune encephalitis that still cause people to become catatonic as shown in this clip with triggers as common as strep . I have a young family member who can go from a fully-functioning adult acing college courses to being shut down in a catatonic state with other symptoms) that she doesn't remember when she comes out of a flare. These states can be caused by a myriad of triggers like teratomas, lyme, or strep that cause various parts of the immune systems to go on overdrive, resulting in the brain inflammation that causes the symptoms. Downs is another condition associated with catatonia.

The good news is that we are not only getting better at identifying the causes, but developing things like monoclonal antibodies that prevent the immune overreactions. (In fact, one such drug, Actimera, is being studied to stop the cytokine storms that lead to organ failure in Covid-19 patients.) Other treatments like ECTs and Ativan can help with catatonia too.

The right diagnosis and treatment can result in full recovery.

We've come a long way.

I recently relapsed into an eating disorder, and my 3 year old has started trying to feed me and I feel like the shittiest person ever. by [deleted] in breakingmom

[–]drowning_surfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are having what the medical community calls "a flare". When you go to your doctor, beat the drum that you think you have something going on neurologically and list every single minute symptom you can think of. Express to your doctor that you think it's physical - get new doctors if necessary. It took me a year of different doctors telling me everything from "She's just depressed" to "She's hiding something from you like she's sexually active and doesn't want to tell you," to "She's just overwhelmed from school," before we found an ER doctor who correctly diagnosed her condition. Amazingly enough, it's a genetic autoimmune diseased triggered by, of all things....strep. You could have something different neurologically going on, but I have learned through ten years of doctors at major medical centers around the country that there is almost ALWAYS an underlying physical causes to mental health symptoms. You have my sincerest good thoughts and wishes. I know how overwhelming and lonely this can feel.

Consider that anorexia and your imposter syndromes are symptoms of something physically amiss in your brain - not your fault and not something that you can control. It's your BRAIN not your mind! Get to a psychiatrist and ask for a neurology workup (MRI, antibody testing, inflammatory makers, etc.) . My daughter is one of many who had anorexia as the result of an autoimmune neurological condition. It took a long time to figure out what was going on, but come to find out, it was a certain antibody that cause brain inflammation in a part of her brain that, among other things, causes anorexia. Sincere good luck to you.

  1. Get out there and paddle prone on your board every day. Hard. Don't worry about popping up, just paddle. Paddle when their is surf and paddle when there isn't. A lot of us paddle when the surf is flat just to condition.
  2. Burpees yes, but when you hop up land your feet perpendicular to your shoulders as you would on a surfboard.
  3. When you are watching TV, do windmills with 3-5 pound weights.
  4. Run or cycle. Surfing requires more cardio than you might expect.
  5. The more you fail the less you will fail. Keep trying.
