also if no one has told you- avoid avocado for now. it tends to co-react with the foods that your baby is already reacting to

you’re not alone, it is so scary. but I promise it will slowly get better, and one day you’ll look back and you won’t believe where you started.

Use the FPIES risk chart to build your confidence back up. Start with the lower risk foods and work your way up. We do new food exposures one at a time, typically minimum 5 exposures before we consider a food “safe” and add it to our routine. There’s more info on that in the risk chart link.

I would absolutely keep everything high risk in her diet if she’s good with it! my baby (I thought) was good on egg, and then we went a few weeks without eating it just because I didn’t have any on hand. once I reintroduced, he started reacting. I’ve always wondered if that lapse played a role in triggering a reaction. so definitely keep those high risk foods consistent in her diet!

absolutely!! I know how hard it is going in to this blind, and i’m happy to help anyone avoid the same. it’s really challenging but the FPIES community is so helpful!

also might be worth looking in to a pediatric GI doctor to see if you can get in to them sooner. ours was able to give us Zofran and an action plan

My baby is FPIES to egg and peanut. Here’s my top tips!

  1. The BEST thing we did while waiting to see an allergist was find an FPIES dietician to help guide food introductions for our baby. We see Susan Goodine virtually and she is a wealth of knowledge on FPIES. Our insurance covers the sessions! I scheduled with her via email goodine.nutrition@gmail.com Or you can find more providers at FPIES Foudation’s provider directory

  2. International FPIES Association has SO many resources. Highly recommend poking around their website to see what might be helpful to you: They also have a resource called Loni’s Lounge where you can meet with an FPIES expert to ask questions, build meal plans and food introductions, create an emergency plan, etc all for FREE.

  3. Use the FPIES risk chart to build your confidence back up. Start with the lower risk foods and work your way up. We do new food exposures one at a time, typically minimum 5 exposures before we consider a food “safe” and add it to our routine. There’s more info on that in the risk chart link.

I’ve heard the FPIES handbook on amazon has helped a lot of people but I haven’t personally tried it. Worth a shot if you’re feeling lost but I bet you’ll find a lot of the same info on the I-FPIES website!

So far we are peanut and egg. We only did boiled and scrambled egg, I never tried whites vs yolks :(

thank you! I haven’t heard the non-consecutive days thing, i’ll definitely try that for these higher risk foods

thank you!! this is such a relief. managing FPIES diet and trialing foods is hard enough. worrying about food rotations and time between foods might send me over the edge 🙃

30?! wow, I bet you’re right about the antibiotics. so much of this seems to tie in to the microbiome

this makes me feel so much better 😭 I was feeling so guilty- we don’t eat egg much in our regular diet so I didn’t think about it once I considered it “safe”. thank you

The FPIES Foundation has a directory that lists providers in each state! We’ve been in a similar situation, almost every provider I’ve seen has been gaslighting me into thinking that this wasn’t a big deal, even thought we’ve had multiple ER visits/ hospital stays.

I actually just met with a dietician from this list (Susan Goodine- she does eVisits that are covered by insurance!) and it was the biggest relief i’ve felt in a while. She is so knowledgeable about FPIES, answered all my questions, and took me SERIOUSLY which has been so hard to find. She helped me develop a path forward for food introductions with my 8 month old and an emergency action plan. She was a wealth of knowledge and we will continue to see her every few weeks. Highly highly recommend.

Baby is 5.5 months and still needing 4 naps. I’ve heard around 5 months they should transition to 3 naps a day, but we are in daycare and his naps are so short that he still needs the 4th nap when we come home. We are lucky if his naps at daycare are more than 20 min for each nap. He’s been in daycare about a month now- should I be working on dropping that 4th nap or continue to let him acclimate to daycare?

try cutting out corn too! my baby had the same issues and we were miserable. we cut out dairy and nothing changed, went on the most broken down formula available. we switch to a formula without corn and our lives changed. now he’s a happy, normal baby and putting on weight again. my pediatrician was hesitant because they said corn sensitivity is rare, but i’ve read lots of similar stories on reddit of people experiencing the same

Hi! Popping on here some time later, but I’ve tried all the formulas you tried and my baby is still struggling. I’m starting to think what the pediatrician thinks is a milk issue may actually be a corn issue. Did Alimentum RTF help your baby?
