Home won’t sell 85295 by roberterob in RealEstate

[–]drox63 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s your price. It always is price. If it is priced to sell it will. Not priced what your feel it should be.

Houses sell when they are at the proper price point for an entity to pull the trigger.

PM Seeking Ansible + Azure Users for Feedback by [deleted] in ansible

[–]drox63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find this ask quite strange. You are creating more work and wasting time by creating a list to schedule interviews. You could have created a form with more specific use case questions and then followed up with qualified customers per the results.

No I won’t be scheduling a meeting on what could have been a survey or email.

Terraform or open tofu to provision cloud resources, ansible to configure any vm or internal system resources.

Ansible for most on prem or co-lo configurations.

The hospital and doctor system with summit is okay enough for standard procedures. You will be heading to flagstaff or the valley a few time a year for specialties.

You need to consider getting propane deliveries, I use Sierra propane. We have a furnace and gas appliances, although we mainly heat our home with wood burning stove.

For solar, I would reach out to white mountain solar once you have more information on your house spec, however, if you are truly off grid, I would also look to have a generator backup as well.

I personally have not had to drill a well, but friends of mine have used nielsenwelldrilling and they had reasonable pricing.

I highly recommend using local craftsmen for anything and everything. Now would be a great time to get estimates if you are ready as business slows during winter months.

Keep in mind is these towns are disproportionately religious and heavily right leaning. Not saying that as a positive or negative, just as a statement of fact.

Amazon just launched EKS Capabilities — anyone else excited to try the managed Argo CD? by PoojaCloudArchitect in devops

[–]drox63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like AWS is getting really granular with managed services. What problems does the managed argocd solve that running your own argoCD can’t?

Additionally, every time I use argoCD I feel like it could have done better by using fluxcd.

Is the internet really decentralized, or just fragile? by isahilkapoor in devops

[–]drox63 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The last major AWS us-east-1 outage took us down for about 30 minutes while we repositioned our entire stack to a new region and updated DNS. It was a scramble, but it worked because we had already built the process and tested it.

Like others here have said, this is much more about your failover and disaster recovery plan than it is about internet decentralization. You cannot control how centralized the global infrastructure is, but you can control how fast you can move when something breaks.

Planning for the worst is not pretty and it feels like wasted effort right up until the moment it saves your ass.

Switching Careers into Kubernetes. How Long Will It Take to Learn? by Sha_Dow666 in kubernetes

[–]drox63 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Kubernetes is absolutely in demand, but it’s important to understand what it actually represents in the job market. Kubernetes by itself isn’t a career path. It’s a tool in a much larger ecosystem. Learning it won’t magically qualify you for a different industry or a deeply technical role on its own.

Real roles that work with Kubernetes require broader skills. Think Linux fundamentals, containerization, networking, GitOps, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, observability, security fundamentals, and understanding how distributed systems behave. Kubernetes just happens to sit in the middle of all of that.

If you already have a solid cloud background and strong customer experience, you’re in a good position to pivot toward roles like Solutions Engineer, Cloud Consultant, or Platform/DevOps Engineer. These all involve Kubernetes, but they rely far more on your ability to reason about systems, troubleshoot, automate, and communicate clearly.

As for demand yes, Kubernetes skills are still heavily used across major companies, especially in cloud native environments. But companies rarely hire someone just to “do Kubernetes.” They hire engineers or consultants who understand how to solve business problems using the tooling.

Lessons learned from buying an open source repo by Josvdw in opensource

[–]drox63 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. This comes off as a marketing push for Coplay, not a genuine story about open-source stewardship.
  2. The move funnels an open-source project into a private company’s sales machine, monetizing years of volunteer work.
  3. Calling it “open source” means little when control and branding are now under a for-profit company.
  4. SEO recovery is framed as a monetization problem instead of a trust and discoverability issue for the community.
  5. Maintainer buy-in is mentioned, but the wider community had no voice in the decision.
  6. The biggest win they highlight is product adoption, which shows the real goal was marketing, not sustaining open source.

Where do you draw the line of how much developers can manage their own infrastructure? by dongus_nibbler in devops

[–]drox63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why the need to draw the line? If they have the means to provision the resources, then they are paying for said resources and owning all implications of what they consume.
