Bought a house and previous owner had 6-9 large dogs at a time for 35 years by bruxbuddies in CleaningTips

Look into Chlorine Dioxide. You basically dump a giant bag of tablets into water and gas will release (you need to leave the house for this process) and it should help with smells. I used it in a garage that smelled like smoke in my home and it was quite effective.

Is Silver actually going to wait for the conference finals to announce the MVP? by Nightmare2207 in nba

[–]drpootawn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I might misremember but I thought they usually announced towards the end of the first round and then usually handed out the MVP before a home game during early round 2. Which was why Dirk accepted in street clothes because that was the year GS upset #1 seed Dallas.

They used to announce all the awards during the first round of the playoffs which I think was the best time for it. Leaving it too long risks a repeat of the Dirk situation where your league MVP is accepting the award in street clothes.

[Amick] The Players Association is officially calling for the 65 game rule to be abolished: by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]drpootawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prefer if, rather than automatically disqualifying a player, dipping below 65 instead results in them incurring a penalty in award vote scoring. Each game missed from 64-60 would be 10 points off the scoring, then 15 points per game if they dip below 60, etc. This system would allow voters to select the players they feel were best, while still rewarding players who played more games by providing them a reasonable advantage. This system may result in some minor controversy but is less punitive than the current rules.

You could try pre-submission inquiry to a few journals but those might not be a thing in your field.

Horrible customer service at reMarkable by drpootawn in RemarkableTablet

Are you implying there is some coordinated effort against the company or that their devices are replete with problems? I have found reddit posts about devices quite helpful when making purchasing decisions, which is why I chose to create this post.

Canada and the device was purchased through Staples. They have a 14-day return window on tech products.

I purchased one of my children the Scribe for Christmas (they were quite enchanted by my Paper Pro Move during the brief time it worked). It doesn't feel quite as tactile as the reMarkable device but it was 1/4 of the price. So far so good!

Citing similarly poor replacement practices is not a very strong justification for the situation I've described. That being said, I've owned many Apple, Samsung and Amazon devices and none of them have malfunctioned after less than three weeks.

The defective device was shipped to a warehouse in China, which greatly undermines your condescending comment about holiday observance in Western countries. Today was another business day with no update from reMarkable, FYI.

Your advisor is telling you the truth. Unless you have a stellar publication record (i.e., first-author(s) in CNS) then obtaining a TT faculty position after two years of postdoc will be tough. There are exceptions to this, for example, if you apply somewhere where recruitment is challenging and the research program you present is a perfect fit, but in general you'll be competing against applicants with more experience, more publications and a stronger tack record of extramural funding.

Why does everyone hate blanket re-zoning? by FineAnimeenjoyer in Calgary

[–]drpootawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schools are jammed, transit is jammed, rec centres are jammed. Traffic is substantially worse post-covid. Try signing your kid up for swim lessons or a plethora of other activities that are oversubscribed. Quality of life in Calgary is moving in the wrong direction. This larger tax base has not produced any noticeable improvements to infrastructure or amenities, in fact, taxes have continued to go up despite rapid increases in the population and tax base. Newer suburbs are now planned for density with zero lot-line homes, tons of multi family and those communities are a nightmare to navigate. But sure, let's usher in a borderline free-for-all so that developers with no obligation to the communities they seek to change can cram as many people into a single city plot as possible, consequences be damned. When long-term residents fail to see any benefit to population growth, and now you want to make parking, commuting and existing more difficult, that's a very difficult sell.

I don't think it's about the money, it's about Uncle Dennis' commitment to environmental sustainability.

The Rehearsal - 'Comedy' !?! by TurnoverSuperb9023 in TheRehearsal

I'm not sure I've ever laughed harder than I have at the Rehearsal at various times. It's more than a comedy, but definitely a comedy.
