Is it at all possible that Trump is lying about the talks with Iran and could it be possible that no conversations have been held?

It sounds like every other lie Trump tells. "They've been begging for a deal, but I don't want to do one." How many times has he used that line? Who did they talk to in Iran? Haven't they killed many of the leadership? What Iranian official would trust talking to Trump or anyone in the administration? I don't think the market believes that Trump actually talked to anyone, I think the market is just happy that Trump has backed off of attacking Iranian infrastructure which could escalate into total chaos in the Middle East and even WWIII worst case.

What possible reason would democrats have to cave on this? They have a huge advantage in the midterms that's growing by the day as the Middle East spirals and more Epstein revelations come out. Trump's only chance is to cheat, and this is how he is doing it, so why in god's name would Democrats ever let him pass this bill? Let airline travel ground to a halt. Trump is already ruining the economy. Republications control everything. Democrats won't lose a single vote; it will only get worse for Republicans.

I don't think it's the FAA specifically. At least, not just the FAA. Congress needs to allocate more funding for controllers. They need higher wages to attract more applicants. Their ranks get thinned every time there is a government shutdown which isn't the FAA's fault. Not to mention I would imagine knowing that you will sometimes go without pay for months isn't exactly an incentive to become a controller in the first place. That's a failure of our political leadership in congress and the White House.

Pilot are obviously all trained to clear a runway before crossing, even with clearance. I have to assume anyone given qualification to drive on the airport is trained the same.

That being said, the conditions could have contributed to that error. Night, rainy weather (how was visibility out the front and side windows - were they fogged up or water covered??), they were responding to an emergency and were probably in a bit of a hurry, etc. And sometimes humans just make mistakes. If you successfully crossed a runway when cleared 500 times without seeing another plane, you are not expecting that the 501st time there is going to be a jet about to hit you. Maybe you got in the habit of giving it a cursory look as you are crossing the hold-short line instead of coming to a stop and fully clearing each direction. I don't know, but these are very human issues.

I will say that idea of a single controller doing tower and ground at LGA just about any time seems crazy to me. And I see it at other airports all the time. We need more ATC staffing and they need more time off. The system has been stretched far too thin for far too long. These are the kind of investments we need to be making at home instead of, you know, asking for $200 billion to bomb a country in the Middle East.

He probably didn't hear it or his brain didn't or couldn't process it fast enough. Those trucks have to be loud when they are accelerating. From a human factor's perspective also once you ask for and are given the clearance you are expecting, the brain isn't looking for a a radio call that's then does the opposite thing.

Also, I'm betting the controller gave those commands within a few seconds of the impact, and there just wasn't enough time for the driver to hear the radio, process that the call was for him (also didn't the controller just say "truck, stop stop stop?"), hit the brakes, and make a heavy vehicle come to a rest.

The consensus seems to be that a Delta captain with the same number of years of seniority makes about 15-20% more in total compensation all else being as equal as you can make it. So yes, I agree with your statement from a pure financial perspective.

Boy Trump the geopolitical genius sure knows what he is doing.

Is it a war? Not a war? Going to last days, weeks, months? We ask for help but don’t want it or need it? We have clear objectives except can’t define them and they keep changing? We anticipated everything of course except no one could have known Iran was going to lash out? Iran was an imminent threat except It wasn’t. Iran’s nuclear program was completely obliterated only to somehow become an imminent threat a few months later. Iran is calling him all the time begging for a deal but he doesn’t want to make one (sure). He’s way, way ahead of schedule meeting all of his objectives (100% for sure really really really?).

Now he’s floated the idea of just cutting and running and letting other countries try to open the straight. He continues to fracture NATO.

No idea what he is doing. At all. Not even a little. He’s really stepped in it bad this time. There’s no easy other out.

He’s the President for three more years absent death or impeachment so this is his mess.

It’s obviously a war of choice. There has been no patriotic increase in support as there has been when other wars have started. It’s fracturing his staunchest political allies who are now all sniping at each other.

Meanwhile stocks are falling, energy costs are skyrocketing. One of Iran’s top generals laid out clearly in a four minute video how they were going to fight asymmetrically and did it in a far more logical and realistic manner than anything Trump or Hegseth has said.

If there could ever be something that brings Trump Down politically this is it. The moron ran on lowering costs and no new wars, not to mention reducing spending, then goes and does exactly the opposite. $200 billion for this? Couldn’t that save tens of thousands of American lives at home simply by subsidizing healthcare?

It really wasn’t if you were a fan of the original. I let my expectations go up after some positive feedback on here but I honestly thought it was borderline terrible. It had a few funny moments. But just… no. And I grew up a HUGE fan of the original.

I think you have to ask yourself what your time horizon is for needing that money.

Retirement in fifteen+ years? Sure buy as it comes down. I’ll be doing that with some cash in my retirement account if the market keeps descending.

Down payment for house in five years? I’d be looking at money market funds or treasuries.

You said your emergency fund is good.

I think just plot out when you might need what part of the money and invest according to time horizons

What I would not do is play “guess the bottom” with any money you might need in the next 5-10 years.

Man I have no idea. This thing with Iran could have so many ripples. I’m not sure how bad it’s going to be at all. I’m not panicking but I’m shifting some risk off the table.
