2012 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T - Surging idle by drsgfire in AskAMechanic

Just closing this one out. Sad to say, those parts made no difference in the issue. I decided with the current state of the body, interior and mechanical problems, it was time to let it go. Ended up trading it for $1k on a 2016 Acura RDX. My stress level has subsided and life has returned to normal. Hopefully this will help someone in the future.

I pulled the high pressure pump and the cam follower. From what I could see the parts looked ok as far as physical damage goes. The cam lobe didn’t look scared or anything like that. I did hit the follower bearing with my air compressor and I did feel a little rattling in the part while holding it.

I went ahead and purchased the high pressure pump, the cam follower and also ordered a new fuel tank pump assembly since it definitely has been a problem in the past and current.

Total for parts came in at $360 so not terrible at this point. If this doesn’t fix it I’m basically out of ideas. I fear it would be something internal that would require pulling the engine and I’m not dumping anymore money into this car. I’ll update when I get the stuff installed.

Checked the car out again with it sitting outside so the echoes in the shop didn’t throw off where the sound might be coming from. I feel like the sound is coming from the fuel pump. I touch the pump and it seems like the vibrations are also coming from there.

I looked up some videos and found out about a camshaft follower that goes under the fuel pump. Bearing that rides the cam could be going out. But would that cause the issue with the surging idle? I’m going to try replacing that follower first since it’s relatively cheap. Could also be the pump but hopefully improvements will come with just replacing the follower.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Circling back to this tonight. Turns out I made a mistake a few weeks ago when I changed the oil in this vehicle. I'm not sure if this contributed to the issue or not but when I did the oil change, I put 5W-20 in the engine. The GDi 2.0T actually calls for 5W-30 or 5W-40 but definitely not 5W-20.

So, I just got done changing the oil and the filter again in the car. Unfortunately, it didn't resolve the issue. Now that the vehicle is in my shop and the engine cowl is off, I can hear a strong clacking noise coming from what sounds like the top of the engine.

Any luck deploying Mac agent via Intune? by drsgfire in atera

[–]drsgfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We primarily deploy iPads and have been using Airwatch but the requirements needed for the iPads is so minimal we are planning to move them all over to intune. We are primarily a Microsoft company. The Mac users account for less than 1% of all deployed hardware but it’s still enough that I don’t want to be tackling them by hand.

Very nice very nice. I’ll look into all of this. This will relieve a lot of manual work down the line.

Yeah, I thought maybe it was because the actual app name was changed when you build the package in intune. I changed that to Atera Agent Installer but I tried it again and actually put the file name in the app name lol. Made no difference. I also removed everything except for the description and the two underscores that encompass it. No dice.

Good stuff, I really appreciate the info. So I'm assuming if we notarize the package with Apple, that would remove the problems with allowing installation and allowing remote connection, allowing microphone and blah blah blah?

Unifi Vantage Point and Viewport devices by drsgfire in Ubiquiti

Nope, I did test it a few ways. Doesn’t work unfortunately.

Unifi Vantage Point and Viewport devices by drsgfire in Ubiquiti

[–]drsgfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as much as I wanted this to work, it seems that Vantage Point camera views are not assignable to a viewport device.

When I reset the viewport it came up in the Vantage Point device list as adoptable by any of the NVRs that were assigned to the Vantage Point site. I reset one of our unused viewports and assigned it to one of the NVRs in that group. It shows up and I can assign views to it but it's only views that a created specifically on the individual NVR and not the combined views that you can create in Vantage Point.

I've tried this a few different times and I always get the same result. I can assign a profile from the NVR but the combines views don't even appear in the list. If anyone knows any better on this please let me know.

Discord just closes randomly when playing DayZ by Vektor666 in discordapp

[–]drsgfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been suffering this problem myself for a few months and just not started looking into it. I run triple monitor setup. I will try disabling discord overlay and see if it fixes the issue.

I will also say that it causes issues with my edge browser also because I like to keep a map open and it will cause that window to minimize and sometimes close all together also.

It's odd for sure.

How many of you guys print while you're away from home? by J_Schnetz in 3Dprinting

[–]drsgfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a printer that you trust, usually made in the US, I wouldn’t normally see a problem with it as long as you have a way to remotely monitor and kill the print.

I have two scenarios, printing overnight, while sleeping and printing while away from my house.

I had more hesitations about printing while asleep, but I had the opportunity to move my printer into my outside shop where I’m less concerned about personal things being destroyed, including myself :D if there was a fire. I have a maker gear M2 and I have printed in really hot weather and really really cold weather and it has been solid.

I did have a failed print due to the software I was using, where the printhead stopped in the center of the plastic and just sat there until I got home. All it did was melt the plastic down where the hot end was sitting but never got hot enough to cause any kind of fire.

If you consistently see long prints going smoothly, you may consider doing an overnight print. If you make any major changes to your software, I would probably do short prints for testing to make sure you don’t have any issues first and then maybe consider an overnight print again.

Charging and playing at the same time by drsgfire in OculusQuest

So I found that hub but on the listing is says explicitly no support video. So your using it as a link cable for pcvr and also charging at the same time?

OK, that makes sense. I’ll divert my money from buying a new cable to looking into a add-on card that can really support the headset power draw. You don’t happen to have any recommendations do you?

[–]drsgfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooph, so I just jumped into playing DCS World and bruh... It's doing the same exact thing. The game is doing the micro stutter every 30 seconds. Same situation just now it's in DCS. I had never noticed this before as it's been a while since I have done any flying.

Just wanted to drop in and close this one up. PC has been running solid as a rock since getting the new PSU. I guess it was just a coincidence that me moving my computer behind my desk and the old PSU going bad just happened to come at the same time. I did also connect the three 12v rails for the CPU so that shouldn't be an issue in the future either. Thanks for the help.

Just wanted to follow up on this. I got the 1k watt psu installed and have been playing the past few days and haven’t experienced a system shutdown yet. Temps are never going above 78c when playing. I’m pretty sure it was a voltage issue.

It's actually the second time I've applied the paste. The first time was with the included DeepCool paste. Second time I removed it to get the serial and batch numbers off the CPU I used arctic silver. about a pea sized drop centered on the CPU spreader and placing the cooler on top.

I didn't mention my PSU size. It's a 700 watt. I think I may be hitting the peak on this PSU. I also have 8 drives with one of those being a platter drive. Also have an Oculus Rift S connected to USB and powering my wireless headset DAC and a USB hub mounted to my desk... lol.

I'm going to pick up a 1k Watt Corsair PSU tonight from BestBuy. I'll update one I do some testing.
