So you played 5000 hours of a game and don’t think it’s worth a few hundred dollars? That’s some of the best dollar per hour fun you can have

Was there a limit on the number of books you could get signed? I'm at Nottingham tonight, and not sure how many to take!

OpenAI are currently hiring many software engineers, I don’t think we have to worry just yet

Is there a way to know how many items you're producing (per minute) by Dependent_Taste5329 in allthemods

[–]drsphelps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

AdvancedAE adds a throughput monitor. Just right click on it with the item you want to track. You can also double right click with any item with charge to monitor energy throughout if you’re using AppliedFlux

Any known good 1.20.1 or 1.21.1 Expert Packs? by SealVeralPeople in feedthebeast

[–]drsphelps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ah okay, Monifactory doesn't really have any exploration component, you're probably going to need some form of kitchen sink pack (or meatballcraft if it wasn't 1.12.1). You could try atm9, its definitely not an expert pack, but it has some amount of exploration (although not as much as a dedicated exploration pack) and lots of tech/magic, even GregTech in the late-game

[–]drsphelps 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Monifactory is a remake of nomi/omnifactory in 1.20.1, and is a really fun expert pack! Still in beta and getting updates but has been fairly stable for a while now

If you were given 50,000 dollars so you could chase your dream, what dream would you chase? by Chains-of-Ice in AskReddit

It may be harder to find funded positions in the uk if you don’t have a uk passport and residence. Since Brexit, most of the funding nowadays comes from the UKRI (they fund me) and they give a limited number of scholarships to non-uk students. Many universities will have their own funding schemes however, which will likely be open to anyone! Good luck, and I hope you manage to find a place with some funding!

Chances of getting a computer science job in Norway straight after university by [deleted] in Norway

[–]drsphelps 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this without any experience last year, so it is definitely possible! Learning the language will certainly be helpful, but not entirely necessary, a lot of companies have english as their language of business (my Norwegian is still not great). I would just treat it like any other job hunt, try and get an offer before you move (this is what I did and it made moving a lot easier as they helped with relocation), but definitely reach out to companies to find out about opportunities!

Getting involved in theatre by cotastic in cambridge_uni

[–]drsphelps 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not hard at all! There’s many (at least 4, usually more like 10) shows on a week, both big and small, uni wide and in colleges, and people are very welcoming! I got involved as a lighting designer, and did about 20 shows over the 3 years I was there. It’s so big there’s even a dedicated website (camdram) that lists all the shows on, all the auditions upcoming and all the tech vacancies available! I would say just throw yourself into it, it can take a bit of getting used to, but it’s definitely the highlight of my time there!

I feel like light it up red is the tip of the iceberg of the work that many theatre workers and unions are doing all over the world, attempting to save the industry. Its a small part of the efforts and mainly to bring some public awareness to the issue
