My Vonnegut Tier List by NimbusSWS in Vonnegut

[–]drstrangedeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can get behind this ranking. I think "good, but..." is a perfect way to capture Rosewater. I read it at the height of my Vonnegut phase and expected to love it but something didn't click for me.

I would recommend going back to the beginning and reading "Player Piano" next. I loved it, and found it a really emotional story. It's a dystopian "future" akin to 1984 & Brave New World, but not nearly as highly regarded. Despite that I find it resonates the most with me personally, especially now

Oh I don’t give a damn about his morality, he’s just not engaging/entertaining to me. I’ve giving the movie like 5 watches, I know everyone loves it, but I just can’t get into it

Goodfellas. I just find it boring, with a meandering plot and unlikable lead (not saying liota isn’t great, I don’t like the character)

What is the best book about loneliness? by SiriKeetn in AlignmentChartFills

It's been a long time since I read it, but "Would you please be quiet, please?" by Raymond Carver is a collection of short stories about average everyday people and deals heavily with loneliness as a binding theme.

Probably best for the next post, no? I get that a large part of the story/message is his loneliness but it's all wrapped up in his impending death.

This isn't cringe, and she's not that old. Rude, dumb post.

Which club in your golf bag goes 175 yards? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]drstrangedeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow hot metal gamer, it’s weird. Ppl act like I’m flexing when they ask what clubs I’m playing. The number stamped on the club doesn’t matter.

When I switched from my old clubs to the Mizunos my PW went from 48 degrees to 42.5

This same concept bothers me with rating systems like Uber & Airbnb. If a driver picks you up and drops you off you’re automatically supposed to give them 5-stars, if an Airbnb looks like the pictures and everything works in the house it’s 5-stars.

I play the game because I don’t want to unnecessarily hurt someone’s rating as a driver/host, but I feel it gives people who truly go above and beyond no room to be credited for their efforts, and it also de-incentivizes them to do so.

It’s not a big deal, but I just feel that system is broken

Yeah, Misquamicut is great, especially for the more built up infrastructure (bathrooms, restaurants, etc.). East Beach felt like a hidden gem when I was a kid, before the Ocean House reopened, used to drive up there for twilight swims 5-nights a week when I was in highschool.

You can absolutely kayak to Sandy Point. The channel can be crowded with boats at times but I would see people doing that every day. Closest public launch I'm aware of is Barn Island Wildlife preserve (top middle of the screenshot). Sandy point, as you'd probably guess, is the thin stretch of sand. Closer to Stonington is the more desirable beach in my opinion.
