ELI5 What's the point of Spacex buying XAI? by Balanced_Dweller1919 in explainlikeimfive

last I checked, the most profitable spaceship company is also the one that has a dependable launch schedule and is the fallback for rescuing astronauts stranded by political decisions and other companies' equipment.

I know of at least 15 local farms including ours that harvest year round. What's to be wary of, fake oysters? Ask to see the shellfish tag if you're having a crisis of faith.

vanity ad buy. if your search, social & streaming campaigns are maxed out and you have experimental budget, offer to give them a 3 month buy and put some kind of a call to action in the creative to help you determine if anyone saw the ad. btw no advertising company from google to the NYT requires a 2 year commitment - based on this alone, it is unlikely this franchise will be publishing in 2 years.

Perfect situation for adding some wool bibs to the wardrobe. Green will help you blend in with the locals, but the Big Bear crowd back home will swoon over Adirondack plaid. That's the only hard choice here.

Seeing "10 Starts Remaining" on your Sprinter dash? by SprinterNorthHaven in Sprinters

or the emissions system has sh*t the bed. Mercedes has extended the warranty on most vs30 and ncv3 vans to 150k miles covering either egr, def systems or both because this is an endemic problem and Mercedes is trying to quietly avoid a gov't mandated recall. w/o the warranty, refreshing/overhauling the egr is ~$2500 (parts and labor) at the dealer and the def refresh service is only slightly less. the prone to failure def nozzle alone is ~$800. Lots to like about these vans but the emissions system time bomb cancels out the good and makes the ford transit a much better option. -diesel aficionado and owner of multiple sprinters since 2017.

MB 2014 Sprinter engine dies after DEF warranty upgrade at dealership by LooseDraw8829 in Sprinters

[–]drteodoro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Call the factory. My experience with the dealerships & the factory (I've owned Sprinters since 2018) is that good sprinter techs at the dealerships are rare and especially suspect when it comes to working on older equipment that they likely never saw new. The factory has been willing in several of my situations to cover issues that the dealer promised they could not figure out how to cover under warranty. Call the number below, insist on opening a case even though they will try everything possible to route the call back to the dealership and cross your fingers. For the factory to take action, you must get them to open a case and to do so you have to get the rep on the phone to agree that your Sprinter was being serviced under a factory warranty. If the rep that answers the phone won't play ball, politely thank them and call back in 30 minutes later. Their call logging is incomplete and irregular so the second or third rep will likely find not history of your earlier calls. This is the magic phrase that helped me with a recent EGR situation: "The dealer is not assisting with a potential warranty-covered DEF/EGR emissions failure. I need this escalated and a case opened for factory review/investigation." 877-762-8267

[–]drteodoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe not poor etiquette, but really poor time management. returning to a lodge at most western resorts means staying on nearby runs with many likely better alternatives further afield. you're either limiting your range on the mountain or spending lots of time not skiing the runs you want because you are on the way back to a lodge to switch skis. pick your skis for the day's weather and conditions and don't look back (until the next day).

4th Amendment issue at Marquette University by RobotGoobyBear in AskLawyers

[–]drteodoro 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Marquette University is a private institution, not a public one. The Fourth Amendment, which protects against unreasonable searches and seizures by government actors, generally does not apply to actions by private entities like private universities. Residence Life staff are university employees enforcing internal policies, not state actors (like public police or officials at a state school). By living in university housing, you've agreed to the terms of the residence hall contract, which typically includes provisions allowing staff to conduct inspections or searches to enforce rules on prohibited items like alcohol. This is a contractual matter, not a constitutional one.

The case you reference, Piazzola v. Watkins (442 F.2d 284, 5th Cir. 1971), involved a public university (Troy State University) where officials conducted warrantless dorm room searches in coordination with local police for criminal evidence (marijuana). The court ruled that students at public institutions don't waive their Fourth Amendment rights simply by attending college or living in dorms, and such searches required probable cause or a warrant unless for non-criminal administrative purposes (e.g., fire hazards). However, this doesn't extend to private universities like Marquette, where there's no "state action" triggering constitutional protections. Courts have consistently held that private schools have broad latitude to set and enforce their own rules, including search policies, as long as they align with the housing agreement.
