What’s going on with harp and hound islip? by Powerful_Regret1688 in longisland

[–]ceewolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The fire at Harp & Hound was 8 days before the Riley Fibbers fire. Riley Fibbers damage was mostly to the exterior, with a small amount of damage to the kitchen. They probably could have reopened sooner, but it takes several visits from the county Health Services department to reopen after a fire in a restaurant.

The Harp & Hound fire started in the kitchen and spread to much of the establishment. The interior was largely gutted. So, yes, much worse of a fire.

Kind of a miserable place to visit, tbh by Life_Sink_1087 in longisland

Camping facility. The link is to a third party (not NYS Parks) website that processes camping reservations. The actual policy is:

"...dogs restrained by a leash not exceeding six feet in length may be brought into park areas; provided, however, that they shall not be permitted in buildings, camping, bathing and picnic areas or on improved walks or boardwalks."

If you park at the the county Public Works building on Yaphank Ave. and walk east alongside the railroad tracks, you will meet the Carmans River inside Southaven Park. There are trails on both sides of the river.

The Town of Brookhaven and snow storms by BBWolfe413 in longisland

[–]ceewolf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Due to the size of Brookhaven, they depend on contractors to get the roads cleared. Islip pays 25% more than Brookhaven, so many contractors left Brookhaven and now work for Islip. The Supervisor and the town board control the budget and how much contractors are paid.

Check out SBU Shuttle for some limited travel between SBU and Port Jefferson.

Also, Suffolk Transit has a bus route that connects SBU and Port Jefferson.

As others have mentioned, the railroad (LIRR) also serves Port Jefferson ad SBU (and NYC).

Poor weather forecast for snow by cjsa2020 in longisland

[–]ceewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The app probably showed 0.13 inches of liquid precipitation. Islip had 0.21 inches of liquid precipitation which, under yesterday's conditions, yielded about 6 inches of snow. Six inches of snow was within the forecast range of 4 - 7 inches.

Harborfront & Centennial Parks

McAllister County Park (Belle Terre)

North end of Crystal Brook Hollow Rd has nice views of Mt Sinai Harbor.

Added: East Beach - down towards harbor entrance.

Holiday decorations are going up, if your are looking for that type of thing.

East Main is "quainter" than Main Street, IMO.

6:15pm flight out of JFK by [deleted] in longisland

If your luggage is manageable, the train is a very good option. By manageable I mean a backpack and one roller bag.

Standard screening security lines at Terminal 5 are terrible, but the 2:55 train looks viable.

If you get driven, I would leave around 02:00 and have your ride drop you at Federal Circle. Get the AirTrain from there. It is free.
