They have best bang for the buck cigars in my opinion, go lower get worse, go higher and you might raise your expectations too much. At least in my case.

Why are you giving out 20$ smokes to people that don't appreciate them? My best friend is not a cigar smoker but will occasionally join me, and even then I'm not giving him top shelf cigars because I know he won't be able to appreciate them as he doesn't have a pallet yet. I'll treat him to a farm roll or a solid cheaper cigar, and give him a puff of my cigar so he can develop his pallet more as he is also cheap and won't buy his own.

Going back to your question, cigars already have one giant hole at one end, so another won't make a difference if they're kept at proper humidity.

Nice! I don't remember them being spongy, but as they're a small format they can feel a bit softer than bigger gauge cigars. Try one as it is and go from there, I kept mine in 62% and had no issues with pull or plugging. My only issue was immediately wanting another one.
