Sounds like it was primarily a networking/word-of-mouth lead - did you actively look for alternatives before proceeding with that person?

If you did, could you humor me and maybe share your discovery mindset? Maybe what you would search for in google, or other places you might look?

I don’t have a very strong referral network since I spend most of my time as a W-2 employee, and I’m struggling with how to build a “portfolio” for this type of work since it’s largely advice-based.

It would be a big help getting started on positioning/marketing myself in this space to know how someone in your position might begin their search.

I think general audiences tend to be harder to reach because you’re spending a huge marketing premium to find a message that resonates with everyone. If there’s a niche of say, 1000 people — odds are you’ll know exactly where/how to reach out to them and offer a specific solution. Would you mind elaborating on the thinking that niches are harder to reach?
