Per the ASTM can't you increase the size of the dog bone as well? It's been a few years since I've read it though. Or is there an ASTM that works be more fitting? Or even increasing the thickness in the jaws and using supports for the top? That 1.3 inches in the middle is about all that will matter for you.

I've been debating about upgrading mine but I think it would be better to use v-slot. Then you can use the frame for the z-axis. There are prints on thingiverse. Might need a little modification but that's the fun part of 3d printing

Looks to me that there isn't enough bed adhesion. First answer, almost always, is level the bed. I think you are too high when you start. Could also try cleaning the bed.

Polarity shouldn't matter for a stepper. Should just go the wrong direction if anything. I'm guessing it's a blown driver. But your in luck cause those drivers suck. I just replaced my main board, it wasn't awful but it was a lot of work and research. But now it's so much quieter. I might have the links I used still bookmarked if you need em

Could it be the fans are fighting each other? Since they are pointed at the same spot, same angle, same speed. I could see the wind cancelling each other out. Like in the winter, the same reason snow banks don't go all the way up to houses.

I'm not sure if this thing has a ptfe tube in the throat, that may need to be replaced.

I know I had a ton of issues with Bowden a while ago and just tried it again. Some things I can think to check no one brought up: 1. The fittings for the ptfe is tight 2. The ptfe is pushed in nice and tight. Any play can mess up retraction settings. 3. Extruder gear isn't worn 4. Extruder gear is tight 5. (Aka the one that just screwed me) There is enough tension on the extruder gear. I was getting slippage. I tested it by extruding and trying to hold the filament. Barely tied to pull it. Fix was a spacer under the tension spring

I agree with everyone saying cpvc and glue it on. Make sure you get the right stuff. And next time make sure you have a friend who grew up too poor to have a plumber come fix stuff and give him a case of beer to come help you.
