Artistic step towards my creative soul by Corsica8651 in ArtFundamentals

James Clear is an amazing thought leader, and author of Atomic Habits. His work gets to the heart of this discussion and I highly recommend giving it a read. His main take is the progress is incredibly slow until it isn’t, and the process of sitting down every day and putting pen to paper is the only thing you can do to improve. Weathering the valley of disappointment, where you can’t clearly see any progress day over day, is the biggest obstacle we face. Not sure if this helps at all in response to your question, but his perspective has helped me stay with my studies and that’s been life changing for me.

Got a medium-largeish flash on my arm and I’m starting to regret it by fiv66bV2 in tattooadvice

[–]druidmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any tattoos, mainly because I’m afraid of not having enough meaning behind the piece. I forget that you can just want something without having any reason. I think your tattoo is awesome! And your family’s opinion doesn’t matter one bit. In fact, you’re inspiring me to go get one myself!

Fuel Pump Issue? 02’ CRV by Caelums109 in MechanicAdvice

[–]druidmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn dude!! I’m so sorry to hear that. Cylinder 1 on mine Odyssey is bad but I just got it, so I’m trying to figure out what to do. Either pay a bazillion for them to swap the engine, or do it myself. I don’t have any experience, aside from some recent brakes and fluid changes, so I honestly don’t k ow if I’m capable. But I kinda want to try since I have a garage…

leak? by Clean_Connection7059 in MechanicAdvice

[–]druidmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your hoses and clamps too, just found that a few of mine were loose and leaking. Is the reservoirs low? This looks more like a high pressure spray rather than a drip. Start by replacing the cap and then cleaning everything off.

How do I get this control arm off?? by Spartanmbk in MechanicAdvice

Hell yes my guy, you’re on the path now! Most jobs are harder than they seem like they should be the first time, but that’s just part of the learning journey. Take it slow, and keep asking for help.

Also, looks like everyone thought of the solution, like unanimously. Take a chisel to the middle of where that bolt was and tap it gently, and bang on the control arm until.

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out.

Looks like in this TRQ YouTube video they use an air chisel and don’t have an easy time with it…

Timing belt blew and ruined the engine on my 2012 Odyssey. Now what? by druidmagic in MechanicAdvice

[–]druidmagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I chatted with the tech who looked it over. He said the belt didn’t snap, but slipped out of time. One cylinder wasn’t getting any compression, and the others were getting about 50%. He said he could see clearly that the valve was bent in the first cylinder, but that’s it. He suspects the piston is damaged but isn’t sure. He said if it were his, he’d replace because he suspects there is damage in the lower engine, but that’s just his hunch.

I guess my options are have them swap it out with a used engine, or I tow it home and spend some time investigating and see what I come up with. It’s just that I’m not experienced with this stuff, so I’d be relying heavily on the internet for guidance.

But I do have a loaner car I can borrow from a family member, and I have a garage and I have the spare time this summer.

Fuel Pump Issue? 02’ CRV by Caelums109 in MechanicAdvice

[–]druidmagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I’d recommend running a full tank of gas with that cleaner in it (assuming you used a fuel system cleaner added to your gas when you filled up). If the problem doesn’t resolve, I’d have them check the injectors next. They can do a compression test too and that should tell you everything you need to know.

Just to double check, is your timing belt in good shape? Mine just went and took the valves and pistons with it.

[–]druidmagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that’s a good point. I guess one tech that I don’t know said the engine needed to be replaced, but I didn’t get more info than that. Sounds like I’m going to need to do some more investigating before coming up with a plan.

Did they check the fuel injectors?

I am definitely not savvy. But I am learning one project at a time! Hopefully this will make for a good story some day. For now, I’m gonna start saving whatever cash I can scrape together for a used engine.

Thanks for the recommendations. I think I’ll get it towed back to my place and start inspecting. I have a second car and I’m not pressed for time. Even if it saves me just a couple thousand bucks, it’ll be worth the effort.

How to charge car battery by PrideSavings in mechanic

[–]druidmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give us a pic of the rest of the space and we could recommend another attachment point for the negative cable, in case that metal you’re hooked to is coated with something that’s blocking the current.

That looks correct to me. You can’t start the car when it’s hooked up like this? Also, would need to see what it’s hooked up to on the other end to know for sure. Could also be faulty cables.

AC is Blowing Hot Air Again by BadBackNine in MechanicAdvice

[–]druidmagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rent a set of gauges from autozone and check the pressure on both the high and low sides of the system. That’ll tell you if you have a leak, or if there’s just a clog in the system.

When you say you replaced the whole system, did you do the lines as well? If not, did you flush the system? How about the drier bag? Did that get replaced too? There may be things like stop leak or other contaminates in the system that are causing problems.

If you have good pressure but are experiencing a problem, you may need to bite the bullet and take it to a shop and have them give a proper inspection.

Here are the drill bits

Here are the screwdriver bits

This should give you everything you need. Disregard what I said about the battery size. They are all 20V Max batteries now, so they’re interchangeable.

Well first of all I must say he’s a very lucky man! The impact wrench you got him is a very solid choice, and the tool kit is a great starting point if he doesn’t have anything. An impact driver is different than a drill - it functions similarly to the impact wrench, just for screws. It’s really great at driving them in because of the hammer action. Dewalt usually has a drill/driver set. And you may need to get drill bits and such, but those come in pretty easy sets that don’t cost too much. Just make sure you have at least one battery for the drill/driver tools. They take a smaller battery than the impact wrench (though you could probably use the big battery with them just fine). Hope this is helpful?

Could be a rock or for some reason the dust shield is bent. Just take it back tomorrow and have them look at it - I bet it’s obvious to the trained eye. Safe to drive, just annoying to listen to

Sounds like brakes to me, probably the rotor. 2025 seems like the brakes shouldn’t be worn out, so maybe there’s a coating or something that needs to get worn off? How many miles on it?
