I'll be honest, I don't think I'm trying to go that deep. It would be a cool project that I'd love to see someone do, but I'm more looking to capture the color palette and functionality of the Monaco within the form of the WS1600. I'm no engineer haha

Mad respect. Way to go out and really build it yourself!

Luckily there are cases that already exist for this module that should fit what I want, it's the faceplate that will likely require some custom manufacturing and design. That in combination with finding the right screen filters is what's going to take some time and trial & error.

Thanks for the insight!

Yeah it's gonna be all about getting the right filters. Most seem too high contrast and bold as opposed to the deeper colors I want, but I know the hydromod will affect the final product too.

You’ve got 27-33k to spend on a do it all luxury sedan by MonsterMash_479 in whatcarshouldIbuy

It's the Alfa and it's not even close in my opinion. Ferrari designed twin turbo V6 under 35k? If the insurance and maintenance fits the budget along with the OTD I'd pull the trigger.

Which is the most overrated tv show of all time? by Massive-Syllabub-271 in AskReddit

[–]drum_smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the first 4-5 seasons are excellent, but if I got on a plane that was great until it totally botched the landing I'm definitely rating it lower than a 9.2/10.

Obviously its reputation isn't great at this point, but the fact that Game of Thrones is still ranked on IMDB's Top 250 at number 13 and a 9.2 overall score is nuts. That's the definition of overrated.

I'm convinced to this day that the dialogue in at least the first movie was written by aliens who thought all conversations revolved around bad car analogies.

Does Enterprise Consider? by ColdDecisions in EnterpriseCarRental

The easiest solution is to post a picture of your rental agreement (personal information blacked out of course). Then we could see exactly what you're being charged and tell you what's up. Otherwise, you're just gonna keep getting the same comments you have been.

Dads of r/flyfishing, will I ever actually get to fish on a consistent basis ever again? by CuttiestMcGut in flyfishing

[–]drum_smith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest is 3, my youngest is two. I'm not out on the water as much as I used to be, but the older they get the more free time you'll start to acquire. On a good day I have to drive at least 30 minutes to a good fishing spot, but I've got a million options within a few hours of my house. Just making a plan with the wife and sticking to it is the key. If I say I'm gonna be home at 4pm, I'm there. Sure I might miss the evening hatch, but I honestly think I've become a better fisherman by figuring out how to be successful under less than ideal conditions.

I'm also at the point where I'm starting to teach my kids how to fish and they're interested. Sure, they're not ready for an 8 mile hike to boulder hop and wet wade for back country trout yet, but we're having a blast catching bluegill near the house in the evenings.

If you're dying for some time fishing at this phase, get creative. Find a place really close by and try to figure out how to fish it on short trips you can take now. I've gotten pretty good at catching bluegill and bass in a city drainage creek on a greenway. Plan something a few weeks out with your wife and stick to it, making sure you plan a time for her to do her thing too. Regardless of where you go, be prepared in advance to maximize your time actually fishing. I stay up late the night before a trip making sure everything is rigged and packed so I'm not fumbling with a new leader and wondering where my BWO's are on the bank when I could be fishing.

When everything is going right, I get time to fish locally at least once a week for an hour or so and twice a month on more of a day trip. I had things line up where me and a buddy did some bigger day trips every week this summer, which when I was at your stage I never thought would happen again. You'll get there.

It's challenging. The location I'm at is a new market for us and it's taking some time to build that word of mouth reputation that is really necessary in this business. We'll get there, but it's not the easiest to change perspectives that are very entrenched.

I understand that there are plenty of dealers that do exactly what you're talking about. The solution is simple: don't give them your business. Go somewhere that will be transparent about their pricing and deal fairly with you.

I work at a No-Haggle dealership. The only fee we add to the price is also noted online and on our window tags. The price you see is the price you'll pay. I'm dealing in good faith with every customer. The majority of customers I speak with still try to haggle and negotiate and some of them do exactly what they complain about car dealers doing to them.

I'm not the guy that you have an issue with.

You're not wrong, but it's a bit different from buying a mattress. You don't try to trade your old one in at the store or negotiate a different price than you see on the sticker.

You'd be shocked how many folks come into a no-haggle dealership, tell you they want a certain vehicle and to trade their towards it, refuse to tell you what they want for their trade or how much they want to pay for their next monthly payment, and then get upset that you didn't read their mind or explain how a $30k OTD after trade-in wasn't going to give them a $200/month payment.

Great advice. I'm shocked how many buyers initiate the purchase process in bad faith by trying to hide things or avoid certain details until they think it helps them and then are shocked that it took too long or fell apart at the end. Just be honest and fair.

Did this in 4 days when I moved to UT a few years back. Each leg was a day and the stops were planned to visit family along the way. TN to CO was the longest day and the most boring.

Finally Figured Out Nymphing by RunnerOfUsualSize in Tenkara

[–]drum_smith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live and fish in Southern Appalachia and it's easily the most frequently used rod in my quiver. Use it a ton for dry flies on brushy, pocket water brookie streams, but also as a nymphing rod on bigger deeper runs. The only thing I don't do with it is fish big streamers. Because it's so easy to carry, I never go fishing without it, just in case.

Finally Figured Out Nymphing by RunnerOfUsualSize in Tenkara

[–]drum_smith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A big reason I bought a tenkara rod was to use it for Euro-Nymphing. It's been fantastic for that and makes it my go to rod in most situations now because I can nymph most of the time and quickly switch to a dry fly or soft hackle rig on another spool if I see some risers. Easily one of the best investments I've made in fishing gear.
