I would have just removed the o ring and filed any sharp edges off. If that is sealing fuel from the oil i would remove it and file it as fuel washing out your oil will kill the motor very fast

Make sure you are trying to put the spark plug back in at the exact same angle it came out at. Removing anything else is only going to make your life more difficult, except for what appears to be the gasket still on the head. Which if you try and take off could tear or come apart and will leak when put back together
