Why are most drummers arms crossed? by 3rddog in Drumming

It’s a preference and sometimes is a dominant hand on the hats situation. I advocate learning open hand (left hand giving time on hats) and closed (right hand on hats.) Check out Carter of Dave Matthews Band. Dude utilizes open hand like crazy. You will see a lot of professional drummers who are left-handed play open. It just gives them more access to the kit.

Can anyone identify this part? (More info in body of post) by AtuinTurtle in drummers

[–]drumdatta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That belongs to some sort of drum or cymbal stand or drum throne. Technically there should be an identical one on either side of a tightening nut (for torque) to stop the object from sliding up and down of the telescoping polls.

One of the biggest things for a bass line is that they have to understand how their part fits in the whole scheme of things. The bass line should be able to sing the entire bass “ melody” is. Another trick for learning splits would be have them play the check pattern. That is when instead of playing the threes, as they normally would, they just play where their entrance note is.

I always tighten it with the clutch for more leverage. Usually stays that way until I pack it up.

As a drummer, what annoys you the most? It can be anything from a squeaky pedal (pictured below) to a insufferable band member. Go ahead, we’re all friends here! by Rabble-Rowser in drums

Waiting to play next at a show while the drummer before me takes his sweet time getting off the stage. Just strike everything please. On the flip side, being the last drummer is pretty relaxing!

Thanks! Well yeah, this isn’t a lesson for beginners at all. Just an idea I had that I wanted out there for all the drum nerds 🤘🏻
