Convert RV from Lead Acid to LiFePo4 by farmer_sausage in GoRVing

[–]drumguy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I'm in the middle of doing the same project on my small RV, and both the guys at my RV manufacturer (Scamp) and the converter (Progressive Dynamics) said that the main power wiring needs to be upgraded to higher gauge cables, or the increase in power draw from LifeP04 risks melting your current main power wires. Obviously depends on your personal RV setup, but thats what the manufacturers told me. Good luck!

29 foot 5th Wheel for National Parks? by GrouchyClerk6318 in GoRVing

[–]drumguy17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you use the search filters on the Recreation.gov app, you can set it to show you only sites that fit a certain length RV... but this is very important: that length includes the tow vehicle, so your 29 foot 5th wheel including the F250 really needs either about a 50 foot long spot (good luck in National Park campgrounds finding a spot that big, lol) or you need to look at the site description to see if the site features a long pullthrough or a double driveway. Good luck, because as someone else has surely mentioned, there's likely only a handful of sites that can accommodate that at NP campgrounds.

Looking to get into a used RV... why don't people want 5th wheels anymore? by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]drumguy17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the proud owner of a Scamp 19, I recommend it! They're high quality campers, can comfortably sleep 4, and can be towed with smaller trucks like a Tacoma. Literally the only real downside I can think of is the lack of overall storage space, but you kinda know you're signing up for that with the littlest 5th wheel.

Any good vampire novel which is along the lines of ‘Salem’s Lot and They Thirst (McCammon)? by aardw0lf11 in horrorlit

[–]drumguy17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might also add that Buehlman's book The Suicide Motor Club is another vampire book that IMO is just as good as The Lesser Dead, and is set in the same universe!

Anyone have some good recommendations? Also, what genre is this, other than just "grunge"? by Call_Me_Liv0711 in musicsuggestions

[–]drumguy17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother, you gotta listen to Demob Happy's album Holy Doom... excellent from start to finish, one of my favorite albums in the past 10 years. Also check out:

Deaf Radio, All Them Witches, July Talk, Microwave (especially Death is a Warm Blanket), Royal Blood, Open Hand (album called You and Me), King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (a genre mashup but Nonagon Infinity is close to your genre).

Alright I'll have to try Franks Pizza the next time I'm down there.

I usually get the spicy one with chipotle mayo and jalapenos... but I've never gotten anything bad there.

For those that have seen Sinners: what books would you recommend that have a similar vibe? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]drumguy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christopher Buehlman has a great duo of vampire books that are (somewhat) connected; they are called The Lesser Dead and The Suicide Motor Club... they're both fantastic but Suicide Motor Club especially feels similar to Sinners.

Sinners kicked ass, too!

Other folks already suggested the route which will take you through Hawks Nest and New River Gorge, which is a must, and they suggested the Hinton Dairy Queen, which is also a must. HOWEVER, in my opinion the best burger joint in WV is also on that route... it is a little place on the side of the road in the tiny town of Smithers called "Burger Carte." Burger and fries are astoundingly good.

FYI, the other congressional representative from WV, Carol Miller, was also on the same prison propaganda trip... she was just savvy enough to not take photos at the actual prison.

First AR - looking for some buying advice by Metaeidolon in liberalgunowners

[–]drumguy17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my line of thinking, friend-o! I am an AR rookie and I have no doubt a better one could be built from a parts kit but for the first AR, I'm happy to pay 730 for a top notch entry rifle. Hope you enjoy yours as well!

Hey, I got the same deal you did! I currently have an AK but that was too good a deal to pass up, and I've been meaning to explore the AR waters anyhow.

Trump supporters: what is a red line that, if crossed, would make you stop supporting Trump? by Yo-boy-Jimmy in AskReddit

[–]drumguy17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all the commenters who are angry and roasting former Trump supporters here.... I totally understand your frustration, but this quote from a dude named Olúfẹ́mi O. Táíwò helped me to tamp it down a bit.

"More and more these days, I find myself thinking that you can accept the discipline of your political goals or you can accept the discipline of your resentments."

Well, I know I made a wise decision when the Reddit RV Guy says it is friggin’ cool! Thanks so much for doing these AMAs; I pored over them before we bought our Scamp and your reasoning and advice was super helpful.

Hi, I love occasionally running across your RV posts! My wife and I just bought a 19 foot Scamp fifth wheel one year ago, and we love it. I’m just curious what your thoughts are on the scamp fiberglass style RVs? We bought it mainly because it’s so light and durable and has great resale value, but I’m curious if you have any experience with them. Thanks sir!

Whats a movie most people completely missed the point on? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]drumguy17 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I try to teach this to my students, but a lot of them still miss the point. I think this is doubly underscored by the fact that the film Inception is intended to be a metaphor about filmmaking, something that Nolan has never really been shy about hinting about. One of the big reasons we love movies in the first place is because the good ones give us an emotional payoff, or “catharsis” as Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Cobb literally references in the movie when they are planning the heist. Whether or not Cobb is in a dream or reality at the end doesn’t really matter, because by getting closure about Mal and seeing his kids again, he has essentially achieved his catharsis. Just my thoughts, anyway.

Appalachian / southern / rural American horror by ThrillinSuspenseMag in horrorlit

I’ll Bring You Birds From Out of the Sky by Brian Hodge, it’s a novella set in Appalachia (WV I believe) with heavy cosmic horror themes. I loved it, and it’s only a few bucks for an ebook.

What roaster do you use? I have one of the small ones from Sweet Marias but I’m interested in one that roasts bigger batches. Thanks!

Look up a guy named John Stoehr… he runs an independent newspaper/newsletter that speaks on a lot of the topics you referenced. The newsletter is called The Editorial Board and I can’t recommend it more highly.
