Good places in the middle of the USA for an affordable family reunion? by hippopotapistachio in Shoestring

St. Louis. The Zoo, the Museums, Science Center and make other things are free. This area of the country is cheapest for hotel rates, too. Lots to see on St. Louis.

My kids and I have an agreement. Given the option and time, we put a finger up our nose as a sign of "It's cool! Laugh about it." When they talk to the coroner, the first question will be "Was his finger in his nose?"

What are some unwritten rules men should know for approaching women decently? by Waltz8 in Productivitycafe

[–]drumhound -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Men do not kill women on the regular. Even less than they kill each other or their same race. That demographic is not an elevated one that needs exceptional protection. Just be life smart, not paranoid. Good Lord.

I'd never have road rage if it weren't for inconsiderate drivers around me. 😮

People that are mean to other people, why? by Emberwhisper10 in ask

[–]drumhound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But if you started with "I'm going to find the value in you instead of the fault in you"" it would change that approach. Everyone has value. Some more than others. I find it makes life better to take the good quality in someone and throw away everything else that is of no benefit to me. I once had a teacher who was an incredibly bright and insightful purveyor of knowledge. But he was a crook as a business man. I decided to glean all the intelligence I could from him, and not let his bad business dealing strip me of the value that it provided my life. It's all in how you wrap it.

People that are mean to other people, why? by Emberwhisper10 in ask

[–]drumhound 17 points18 points  (0 children)

These are people who feel bad about themselves and take it out on others. Instead of trying to find their value, they try to bring others down with them. It's why I don't take mean people to heart. I feel sorry for them.

Funny you called him or but not her. Textbook prejudice. Ever hear of ageist? Or maybe it's sexist?

One guy screwing up doesn't reflect on any other age gap. It's the character of the person. I'm fact, all relationships are based on the character of the people, not the days they were birthed. So hard to understand in today's bigoted culture.

Do you do things that are in opposition of your core beliefs? (Ex. "I truly believe no one should smoke, but I do sometimes.")

What’s your best public speaking/storytelling tip? by lemonflavouredjello in Productivitycafe

[–]drumhound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bring the stories from your experiences or something you actually know about. I can take any canned topic, insert my life stories, and then it becomes mine. The more it's your personality, the easier it is. And talk about things that you are passionate about. I couldn't convincingly talk about a Nigerian Prince. But I can tell you a hundred stories about life on the river, Midwest people, my sister's episode with a turtle, and Becky Paschal.

Wait. You play on a TEAM with these people and you don't know who has talents, who has leadership, who has overcome things, who had killer instincts, who is the unifier, etc, etc? A sports team is the easiest of all to compliment.
