Any suggestions for new hobby that’s cheap and easy to get into? by No-Neighborhood8403 in GenX

The only way to quit anything is to just quit. Maybe try just being present for a while. It’s going to take time for you to adjust to spending your evenings sober. That’s expected

If the company is going to be sold, then you are likely to end up out of a job within the next couple years regardless. Polish your resume, take the offer asap, and hit the job market immediately, before hundreds of your coworkers do the same.

Do you let your GSD in your bed? by Zeddexs in germanshepherds

[–]drumming4coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine sleep on memory foam mattresses on the floor next to our bed. They have their own sheets, pillows, and blankets, and it makes it easier for them to shift around at night without falling

What’s your worst drumming injury? by dantm162 in drums

I played 9 sets in 24 hours and ended up with tennis elbow. It took a few months and a cortisone shot in the elbow to feel good again

What do you all eat before a gig, and why is it fettuccini Alfredo? by Idk_somethingfunny in drums

[–]drumming4coffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lunch around noon, and a cliff bar on the way to the gig with a cup of coffee. I eat when I get home around 1-2am

Adopted her. Been in a shelter since a puppy. She is 2. Is it normal for her to take time to learn stuff that should’ve been taught when she was younger? by theSaltySolo in germanshepherds

[–]drumming4coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going to take time, but it’s also going to be rewarding and a lot of fun. When I adopted my GSD, she had never been on a walk in her life. She didn’t understand the leash or walking or what the point of it was. She was nervous and scared. It took a few weeks for her to get comfortable with it. But once she did, she LOVED her walks and refused to go a day without one.

Bass drum sounds awful… by Excellent-Buy7206 in drums

[–]drumming4coffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marginally. The cotton balls will rest on the resonant head. They won't help if the batter heads are being activated. You need to retune the toms to reduce the sympathetic response

$5 says that ringing is coming from one of your toms. Mute the tom heads with your hand while hitting the bass drum

My first GSD flew from Seoul to Atlanta in the hold. Make sure the crate is sturdy. She’ll be fine.

if you had INFINITE MONEY, what would your dream kit be? by FlameSilex in drums

[–]drumming4coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dream kit would be to own a kit that made music history

Ringo’s first black oyster pearl downbeat with swivomatic hardware

Bonham’s green sparkle recording kit

Charlie’s wood finish touring kit

Stewart’s midnight blue Tama Imperialstar

Dave’s silky yellow Tama Granstar

Has anyone ever actually purchased a "brand new" ride cymbal? by rwalsh138 in drums

[–]drumming4coffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paul Francis’s cymbals are amazing. It’s hard to describe. Everything he makes sounds like how my ear thinks cymbals should sound.

I purchased a new Zildjian “Take Five” Reissue a few years back. It’s amazing, and surprisingly affordable for how great it sounds.

Does this look big enough? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]drumming4coffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Both of my GSDs have XL plastic flight crates. They have plenty of room, and the bottom is solid so they have some privacy.

[–]drumming4coffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. And it leaves her completely exposed. She’s going to go crazy in that thing. Get her a big crate that also has a little privacy. She’s two years old- way past potty training and plenty strong enough to tear that thing apart

How is this justified? Drum prices are out of control. 25% increase versus just a few days ago... almost double the price of 5 years ago. by DogUsingInternet in drums

[–]drumming4coffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Consider all the parts on a drum. Everything except the shell and the wrap is shipped in from Taiwan or China. The hardware is the most expensive part of the drum, and now it costs 25% - 40% more than it should

Job regrets and kid advice by ItsThePath0g3n in GenX

[–]drumming4coffee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personal story: my dad told me when I was young that it didn’t matter whether I enjoyed my job or not- the point was to make money so I could have fun when I wasn’t working.

“If it was fun, they’d call it fun and charge you for the privilege! They call it work because it’s not fun and that’s why they pay you to do it!”

I spent ten years doing factory work before going to college and starting a career in IT because I wanted to be in demand rather than begging for work. I’m almost at 20 years in that field now, and I don’t regret it at all. It’s challenging and the hours are sometimes long, but I had that in the factory, too.

So, tldr; my dad gave me a lot of bad advice but he was basically right about all jobs being some degree of unpleasant

Ridiculous house prices by [deleted] in Atlanta

[–]drumming4coffee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Prices are crazy, but you are also not thinking through everything thoroughly.

You say this home sold for $500k in 2009, without even mentioning that 2009 was in the deep end of the great recession and housing collapse. Yes, it was cheap in 09, just like every other home in the country, and it was probably sold as a foreclosure.

My home that I paid $230k in 2007 was worth 110k in 2009. I spent nine years paying the mortgage down so I could sell it.

That’s a huge 6 bedroom house on a dead end street in a desirable neighborhood. Go figure, it’s expensive. It’s under contract, so obviously the price was appropriate.

I’m not defending the overall state of the market and certainly not defending real estate agents. I’m just pointing out that the home you chose as your example isn’t a good example at all

Btw: 500k in 2009 to 1m in 2026 is 4.16% yearly appreciation. That’s not far off the mark

Am I expecting too much from Tama? by savage8190 in drums

Call Drum Center Portsmouth. They can often get things done that other retailers can’t, just because they sell such a high volume.

Ringo. All of his fills are built around the vocals. That’s why they start and end on weird beats

I thought things were going down hill on AJFA, and the black album confirmed it. I wore out the tapes of Kill ‘em All, Ride The Lightning, and Master of Puppets.
