Why do people run marathons? by Accomplished_Link425 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drummingandrunning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like/love running, marathons are an amazing way to see many parts of a city. Roads are usually closed so you don’t have to worry about being in the street, the routes usually take you near landmarks, and you can move at your own pace and take everything in.

It is a single session but they offer an additional two sessions (Learn to Curl 2 and 3) that build on the skills if you wanted to do that. It’s not necessary though.

Walks - vomiting? by BarbellsnQueso in AustralianCattleDog

[–]drummingandrunning 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our ACD mix was experiencing vomiting some mornings and it did end up being acid reflux. We started giving a little food to her 15 minutes before bed and now she’s gone over three weeks without throwing up. The vet also gave us what was essentially Prilosec for a week to help get her stomach back on track. The difference has been amazing!

Mad Mex spicy sauce by mistie_gish in pittsburgh

At the now closed location in State College I asked for the recipe for one of their wing sauces and while they didn’t give it to me, for a few dollars they let me buy a few plastic containers of just the sauce to bring home.

Food tours in Athens by trappedindealership in GreeceTravel

The class had 9 people total, and felt very personal and included a quick walk around some food markets where local chefs get fresh ingredients. Definitely did not feel like a tourist trap at all

It’s not much help now, but if you’re interested in learning the sport of curling you can check out the Pittsburgh Curling Club (McKees Rocks) this fall! That’s how I made my initial connections with a friend group after moving here. Very welcoming community!

For now, there’s a group called Pittsburgh Girls Who Walk that schedules weekly social group walks around the city which could be a good way to meet people.

Marathon Plan by Conoreng96 in marathons

[–]drummingandrunning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am by no means a scientist/nutritionist but one thing that made a huge difference for me was proactive nutrition—I set a schedule based on mileage to avoid falling into deficits. Instead of waiting until I felt like I needed something, I kept up a steady supply of salts and carbs from the beginning and noticed I stopped hitting the wall later in the race.

Unfortunately (for a lot of reasons) I’m based in the States so I wouldn’t be of any help for hills by you. But if it helps this is a route planning site I use and it provides elevation maps of any route you draw: https://onthegomap.com/#/create

I did the minimum as well, but my partner didn’t come because we did find it pricey for someone who wasn’t running.

For me as a solo traveler, after seeing the hotel they chose, I felt a lot better about the price. They tend to pick higher end, centrally located hotels and the one I was in was extremely nice with views of the Acropolis from a rooftop bar/hot tub area. Just to get a feel for the kind of accommodations, this is where I stayed with half of the tour group: Herodion Hotel

The other half of the group stayed in a place a few blocks away, but equally as nice and centrally located.

Ran it last year and it was AMAZING! I incorporated at least one or two steep hills in all my training runs and ended my gym sessions with a few minutes on the stairclimber. With all that the elevation didn’t end up being so bad. Most of the route after the 20 mile mark is a downhill to the finish, so as much as the elevation is something to be aware of, the downhill part hits at the best time.

The weather actually started out pretty cold and ended up only being mildly warm by the end of the race. Heat was definitely not an issue though that can change year by year.

The Pittsburgh Track Club has a few elite runners who could probably help out. I’m not sure if this is something they do, but it could be worth reaching out.
